Just set a reminder on my work calendar to stand up every morning to work some. I'm going to get use out of this standing desk.

$70/mile seems steep but I guess you don't have to spend money on a TT bike or a license so maybe it's a good deal.

It's advertised as a fundraiser, not a real race. And it does come with a lot of swag...

The VIP experience for that stage is gonna be stupid. It's the prologue, so ultra short. The riders aren't gonna be super motivated about a merckx 3 mile tt and it's a long ways away from the rest of the state. I'm not angry about it, just don't understand..

A friend of mine worked for a team/group of riders (high level - the Masters that do the SoCal scene) who do the Tour of CA route earlier in the day before the actual pro race. They paid him quite a bit of money to basically drive a support car and care for the bikes each day. He'd take a week/whatever off from work to do it, did it a couple years. And those riders did it on their own dime, meaning all the money came out of their pockets.

Sounds like a lot of fun, if you can afford it and can handle the climbing. They did the whole thing?

Carmichael Training Systems does this annually. It's something silly like $10k for the week, gotta be a service writer to afford that kind of stuff.

I learned a breck-fast (breck-epic bandit ride) where the locals get up early after the course has been taped and ride it before the pro's hit the course. Technically it's open trails, but that sounds like a super fun time

Bike magazine is having a 4 day mountain bike thing at a lodge in British Columbia. 3 days of truck shuttle riding and a helicopter shuttle on the 4th day. All meals and a room included for 2 grand. I actually thought about it until I remembered I suck at downhilling.

Went and did something completely non bike related this morning and had some fun doing it. Signed up for and played in a poker tournament at the casino. Made it to the final table, but was short stack going in and ended up in 7th place..Payout was through third.

Might do another one soon.

We just dropped 15k on a new A/C and Furnace...ugh. The good thing is I think that's the last essential thing we have to do in the house (you never know about the plumbing). The AC is 40 years old and it just wasn't keeping up. The house never gets under 80, and we still have 8-10 weeks of heat left.

Funny thing is the serial number on the Furnace was 53.

Submitted my resume for an internal promotion today. The new position would be in a different department. I work with that department regularly, but my boss really does not like the other department head. It's been a nasty fight, but I've avoided it because my position requires me to work so closely with them. I have no issue with the other department head. She and I get along fine, though I don't think I will ever get along with her as well as I do with my current boss.

I'm not sure I would like the new position better than the one I have, but it's a good promotion, and they don't come available too often here.

It's often good to throw your hat in the ring when those once in a rare while opportunities present itself. Remember, when they're interviewing you, you should be interviewing them too. You can always decline an offer from a place if you do not like the answers they gave to your questions.

And if the promotion is a title change that would be beneficial outside of that company and you don't plan to stay forever, it might be worth it to get the title alone. Once you get a supervisor or manager or director or lead or whatever title, you'll be much more likely to get a similar or better position at your next company.

I dunno if anyone is into finding inexpensive cycling clothing, but I took a shot with one of the many vendors that sells on aliexpress (although I ended up purchasing for a few dollars more via amazon prime). For $16 it's not bad (I bought racmmer brand, one of the various word jumble brands lol), would definitely get a few more to put in rotation.

Spexcel has been amazing. 90% sure it's the same company that makes Rapha's stuff. Bibs are top notch, last a long time and have a chamois better than almost anything else I've ridden in. Just make sure you look carefully at the designs / strap layout. Some are.. funky.

Are hornets and bees and stuff worse this year (perhaps just in the NE?) or have my family and I just been unlucky?

I've been stung twice in the past couple weeks by stuff (hornets I think, but I dunno), my dog was stung, my father in law has been stung twice, their dog was stung, and my mother in law was chased by some stinging stuff but got away (she was tripped by her dog during the run and hurt her ankle though).

This is at two separate houses, who haven't had this issue before.
