Is it cheaper to buy an F-150 or just build my own?
All things being equal, would it be cheaper for me to build one F-150 or just buy one from the lot?

I suggest you build an F-35. Much faster finished product. And simpler, in that it has neither front Nor rear derailleur---and still climbs like a flaming banshee. You will drop all your friends in their F-150s on your next weekend run, guaranteed.

OP is not talking about performance; he talking about cost. And that is a good way to approach a subject when funds are limited.
Using that as a basis, I strongly recommend you steal an F-150, rather than buy or build one.

If this is a serious question then bikes and cars are vastly different in complexity apart from both having wheel.
Even a rank beginner like me can pay $100 to buy the tools necessary to assemble a bike and put one together in a weekend given all parts are available. I stopped servicing my car after EFI (electronic fuel injection) came in as the equipment was too expensive to buy.

Building a Ranger would be a lot cheaper and 99% of F-150 owners don't really need the extra size and weight of a full size truck.

It is cheaper to build if you keep an eye on ebay and wait until you can get all the parts NOS for 80% off retail. You have to be patient but I did it and my FISO only cost $22,000 CDN. I had to pay a bit more on top of that to have it assembled, and it doesn't really run properly or look very good, but I think it was a good learning experience. Would recommend!!!!
