Gitane Midget/Junior Racer - $150 shipped via bikeflights
Here was has a project that was meant for my son, but by the time I got around to doing anything with it it's now too small for him. You don't see a lot of these. I think I bought it from someone here years back and I didnt really do anything with it except buy tires (one of which i seem to have lost in a move)
The wheel size is 440, which is a weird french size that's hard to find. It's 1x3. Everything seems to be original short of the front tire/tube which i put on there new a few years ago. It uses 20" tubes. Let's assume it only comes with one tire , but if somehow the rear one pops up (i've already looked for it more than once) i will include it.
Measurements are:
24" standover with current tire
17" top tube measured center to center
16" seat tube measured center of crank to top.
I didnt measure but stem are bars seem proportionally small to the tiny bike. I'm happy to measure or take more pics for anyone interested.

It's like a Pony next to a Stallion. Super cool!
Man if my GC's were of riding age and like riding (I expect they will) I would be all over this.

My first bike from years ago was a little green 5-speed that Dad sourced new aluminum rims for, and I believe double butted spokes
I don't have photos now, I have to hunt for some more later. But, I have a feeling that it was a Gitane. 24".
Of course, your bike is tiny. It would be a fun bike for the right family.
You could probably build 451 wheels for it if you wished to have something with modern support.

Pic of my late buddy Mark on the little 500A Flandria I gave him to give to his nephew. The nephew obviously never got the bike. I got these tires from Mel Pinto Imports, same size that you need, so you might want to check with Velo Classique, whose owner bought Mel out many years ago. That place in Purcellville VA place has bikes this size on display.

I'm surprised this hasn't sold. If I had a kid I'd definitely want one of these.

You are no authority on the subject of cool or kids, sir. I'm on to your hip uncle bit; not buying it.

How much does this bike weigh?
Where would you get a set of tires and tubes for it?
Sent you an email, if available we'll take it....Mom in France says its perfect for the soon to be 5 year old granddaughter. Though I'll wait until next year when she's a bit bigger and I can be there.

Thanks squirtdad and -holiday76 and the wisdom of a mom and grandmother who both nudged my thinking. There is such a thing as a transitional bicycle and this will be one for two of my younger granddaughters on there way to their own adult sized Mixte bicycles I'll find for them when they've grown into them.
Once it arrives I see if the Gitane crowd can source any further information on it and when it was made from serial number, always a fun discovery.
That it returns to France lets the circle be unbroken.

I hung onto it and it’s the right size for my kids now, only the tires are 40 years old and quite dry rotted. I’ve looked at local bike shops but they have nothing
Thanks,
Dave
