I will be joining your ranks in April

I will be 50 in April 2020 so I will be joining your ranks. I am a superclyde at 6'3" and 365 pounds.

When I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in August 2012 I was living a very sedentary life (i.e. not exercising like I should) and weighed in at 340, but after going on insulin I ballooned up to 406 in less than six months.

With cycling I got down to 350, but due to some lack of activity the last couple years went back up to 370 and now down to 365.

I ride a 60cm Orbea Orca (2013 model bought new in 2015) that I have upgraded from 105 to Ultegra, upgraded the wheels to Rolf wheels, upgraded the bar to the Dedo 35mm diameter bars, and upgraded the saddle.

See you guys and gals around.

Aha! So you're trying to sneak in a little early?

You're not the first. Truth be known the majority of those 40 something riders are secretly trying to join our ranks - they just don't like to talk about it.

Joined in 2018. You will be a youngster . Being in early is like sneaking into a bar when you are 19 and you need to be 21

Well, perhaps by the time you ARE 50 , you will be on your way to feeling much better. I don't think it is ever too early to dip your toe in the water.... or too late! Joe (turning 65 this month, HELLO MEDICARE!!) joesvintageroadbikes.wordpress

I already am having more energy after making some changes and talking to a health care professional... I did buy a narrower saddle that seems to not create a saddle sore every time I ride, and soon riding will be indoors due to weather.

As to sneaking into bars well I would go up to White Rock, B.C. when I was 19 and in the Navy stationed at NAS Whidbey Island as the drinking age in Canada was 19, and with a military ID cover charges got waived.... but I could get served at 17 here in the States if I didn't shave for a day and the bar wasn't checking IDs.

Well we wholeheartedly welcome you to the ranks, It's all a downhill coast from here

Congrats on your previous success trimming down and hope you are able to keep the trend going! Try to keep inspired and motivated and get out there, it's really getting beautiful out now that Fall is here (I think)
