Brake Poll - do you use the big 3 or other?
It appears to me that lighter weight brakes now come in prices competitive with even mid-range Sram/Shimano/Campy brakes and offer comparable stopping power and reduced weight. Often times, these brakes also come with nicer pads.
So I'm curious:
- who is running brakes from Shimano/Sram/Campy?
- have you considered brakes from EE, TRP, Ciamillo, etc? why wouldn't you?
I'm not in the brake business, just curious why people select the components they do.
Just as an example of these lighter weight, competitively priced stoppers; I recently saw Negative G SS which are 220 grams for $180, TRP 920s come in at 255 grams for about $100 and lots of people are running Planet X/CNC variants at 200 grams for ~$150.

Likely will be trying Planet X soon. Currently running Sram Force brakes.
Good question, I'm curious to hear others thoughts on brakes other than the big 3

Ultegra 6700. Great stopping power...
Have thought about KCNC's, but would rather put that money into a second set of wheels since the Ultegra's work very well..

I tried KCNC CB1s. The pads on them sucked so I put Dura-Ace pads on. Even then the brakes were not that good- more friction and stronger springs meant more force required at the lever. I gave up after a long session of climbing and descending a twisty road because I had sharp pains shooting up my wrists. I went back to 7800s, possibly the best brake you can get. I did lighten them by about 25g each with titanium parts.

Don't fix it if it ain't broke.
Most mid to high end bikes come with one of the top three brakes so there is no need to replace.
Even if I were to build up a bike I would still probably throw on Ultegra or Dura Ace.

I didn't state it in the original post but I run TRP R920s. I find them to be the great compromise of brakes. 255 grams, $100, power/modulation close to Sram Red, come stock with Swiss stop/Kool stop pads.
If I were shopping tomorrow, I'd probably look to the "next" level up. TRP r960s are a little lighter and many compare their power to Dura Ace; but I've also always wanted a pair of Ciamillo brakes.

Using Ciamillo Zero G Ti right now. Kinda a pain in the ass to center in the initial setup. Once setup...they are fine. I ride with my lever pretty loose. The brakes stop pretty well at the limit.
Picking up a pair of FC Zipps in a couple months. The Zero G's do not like wide wheels. I either drop the cash and get thinner holders and a new cam for the ZG's or just get a pair of Red brakes...

5600, because they were $50 shipped for the pair.
Then I also have avid BB7 and single digit 7 on my other bikes.

This sucks, I have four bikes with four different brand brakes. Why don't I get four votes?

"Unbranded/other".
Planet-X Ultralight CNC @ 199g w/SwissStop GHP2 Pads. $175./shipped.
I would've put up with the extra grams and mounted Dura Ace 7900's
if they were compatible with my Dura Ace 7800 Shifters.

Currently using Sram Red, and KCNC C7s. I have a set of DA 7800s as well but don't use them anymore. Doing it over, I would have gone with a second set of KCNC brakes, braking power is just as good as the Srams, they're both have 95% of the power the Dura Ace ones have, which is way more than I need.

I was hoping they would fail me so I could justify going with silver brakes on my BBQ CAAD9, but nope; They happen to perform damn well. I don't know that I need anything more than these.

Unbranded/Other is a bit harsh. Avid BB7's and all the downhill stopping power an aging, 200 lb. fred could ever want.
