Just to offer up the other end of the spectrum....
Well, I don't have a pic of it from after I put on the rack and baskets. But it was this, right up to the point the pedal fell off. I need to source a new cranks as both arms are messed up and the previous owner welded on the pedals.

My heavy-duty grocery getter is classic-styled and uses some C&V parts, so I guess it can go in this thread. Old pictures, but it still looks the same. I have racks and panniers for the front but haven't ever used them on this bike, I have found that I can carry up to 80 pounds of provisions with just the rear rack and no trailer, though anything more than 60 pounds of cargo on the back makes the bike wheelie-prone:

I shop by bike pretty much every weekend, often taking my commuter, which lately has been a V-O Camargue:
Lately, I've been transitioning to my Ebisu as my do-everything commuter and grocery getter:
The front basket that's on the V-O will soon be transferred to the front rack of the Ebisu. Probably the rear rack/bag system, too, at some point.
But when I need to carry big items, my St. Etienne porteur is the bike for the job:

Usually this one. I use an Axiom Hunter grocery bag pannier to which I had to attach a velcro strap at the top to cinch the top of the bag closed. Sadly, the Civia Cafe racks are out of production. The U-curve in the horizontal strut is great for J-hooks on a pannier and is far enough back to avoid heel strike unlike my Blackburn Mountain racks.

That would be the ideal front rack setup for me. It looks great to boot. If I may ask how does one set up the front rack with caliper brakes and are there specific racks that work best? I initially looked at the Soma mini front rack but was told that it would not work with caliper breaks since it could not be attached via the brake bolt and P-clamps would not provide enough stability.

Each basket can hold 2-3 of those floppy, plastic grocery bags, depending on how much is in them. I think they're sized for the brown paper bags grocery stores used to use. I throw a bungie across the top to keep anything from bouncing out. When both baskets are in the open position, it forms a wide platform, like a porteur rack. I supplemented the weenie mounting brackets the racks come with, by using some small, metal hose clamps and zip ties.
The front basket is just an old desktop letter tray. I wanted something, not that big, with enough of a lip to keep things from rolling off the side of the front rack.
