categories for age
What age categories are there? I did a web search and still don't know. Is there a simple chart? Or even a complex chart?

your question is too simple. I assume you are in the US, if so that makes it slightly easier. In general it is in 5 year age increments based on your age on Dec 31 and starting at 35-39, then 40-44, etc.
However that is only the generic answer for something like nationals. For any other race it can be any other combination 35+, 40+ and 50+ are all common, but I have seem many others as well, promoters choice to get the largest number of people to show up. They will also sometimes limit it by race category in addition to age. Last weekend I was at a race and it was something like 35+ Master 4/5, then 35+ Master 3/4, 50+ Master 3/4 and 35+ Master 1/2/3.

In Australia the year your birthday hits the next bracket you go up.
Other then states and nationals racing in Masters age categories MMAS1 30-34, MMAS2 35-39, MMAS3 40-44 etc we races grades A - F where A == Cat 1.

I would say these are the generally accepted categories for masters racing by age group:
1) 40-49yr olds= Slow
2) 50-59yr olds= Slower
3) 60+yr olds. = barley moving

Every race, organization, country may do it differently. Generally there is a JR (<19), U23 (<23), elite (<35), masters (35+) then can be broken up. Of course lots of masters will race elite still.
IMO every category can be competitive and post pretty similar times across the board.

I think at Kessina we will have some choices depending on the fields. Sometimes masters and sometimes cat5.
