Restoration tips for steel frame with Dupont Imron 2 coat paint?
Hey all,
I know that restoration has been covered in hundreds of threads, but everyone has different ideas about what works and what doesn't, and I'm not sure whether the scratches in my frame have gone all the way through the paint or can be polished out.
Not the best picture, but you get the idea. What's the best way to get scratches like those out?

Those "scratches" look more like big chunks of missing paint.

You'll need to sand the existing areas to feather them out...lay spot primer (etching if bare metal)...repeat. Spray touch-ups, blending...repeat. Scuff entire frame with grey scotchbrite...clear coat, wet-sand before final coat...buff when dry/cured.

What kind of frame is it? Worth dropping off at Circle A in Providence for a repaint?? southpawboston (Anton) also has the name/number of a good/cheap powdercoater in Plymouth if it is a run-of-the-mill jobbie...

It's a 1980 Trek 616. I'm getting it ready for resale. I think I'll let the next owner decide if they want to change the paint. I'll just give the frame a polish, it looks pretty nice except for where the original components scraped the paint off.
