2014 Surly Straggler

Thinking about adding a 2014 Surly Straggler to my fleet for gravel / dirt.
I mostly follow and ride road bikes and dont have a really good gravel option.
Can find some good deals on older Surly and question is would approx 1K on such a nice steel setup be as good for recreational use vs a newer and probably more expensive model?

A new Straggler from Surly is $1650 so approx $1000 for a nice 2014 is a nice discount.
The used model also includes a Revelate Designs full frame bag and an upgrade x10 w/ 40t and the original 46t outer and 30t inner setup.

Have other viewers considered Surly and then decided on other gravel bike makers?
Looking for feedback from the gravel riders

The Straggler is a good bike, but $1,000 is way too much money for one that is six years old, even with the extras. (And that assumes that the frame bag has value for you, and won't just sit in the garage.)

Spend a bit more and get a new bike. At this time of year, you can probably find something similar (steel frame, same level of components) like a new Straggler or a Kona Rove ST, for only a bit more money.

Pretty hard to beat the Straggler for the price. My Cross Check is the same but with rim brakes. If you ride it properly, it’ll go there.
