Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

À propos, just came back from a lecture on viruses (not coronavirus) to a big auditorium full of physicians and scientists. At any given moment about one in five or six people had their hands on their faces.

How does this compare to the mortality rate of the regular seasonal flu we see here in the USA?

I would have to look it up but would guestimate influenza mortality is much lower, maybe 0.1%, so this is a bigger deal but nowhere near as high as with SARS or Ebola etc.

When you look at the actual number of fatalities the numbers are incredible. Between 12,000 and 56,000 people die on average in the US from the flu, the common, ordinary flu. Last year, an exceptionally bad year, saw 80,000 people die from the flu. Pretty jaw-dropping for me.

For those interested, camera was a Canon EOS-M with an EF-M 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens. Running in auto mode because neither my wife nor I really know much about cameras Takes nice photos, though.

Mechanic said he Macguyvered a new shifter bushing from an old rubber grommet and welded shifter pivot shaft, so the Saturn is NOT dead after all.

If/when Saturn dies, I will be looking for something very budget and very dependable. Likely a Honda Fit.

These days wearing a surgical mask would be more frightening. Periodically splash water on your face, so it look's like you're sweating. And throw random coughing fits.
