A knowledgeable friend with whom I was discussing the Clive Stuart Cycles story says that he seems to recall reading that the brothers once owned an hotel which burned down. Any info on this please?

I posted this one in the 650B conversion thread, but for the sake of historical record, makes sense to post it here, too. Lots of good info on the Clive Stuart brand in this thread, and this one was a recent eBay find. Frame has been repainted and re-decaled, so there's the possibility it's some other brand, but the three-digit serial # (258) seems consistent with others in this thread (and original yellow finish showing through in many spots also seems consistent with pics I've seen online).
I've built it with 650B x 38mm tires and plenty of clearance for those. It's a comfortable rider.

I have lifted this from an earlier response.....
"The company was started by brothers, Clive Biddulph and Stuart Biddulph, at the time said to be London Jewellers and entrepreneurs. The Biddulphs reportedly spared no expenses with the team and lead extravgant lifestyles. Stuart is still his flamboyant self and not long ago paid a visit to Brian and Jason Rourke in a new Porsche. Clive passed away in a hotel fire, while saving his son's life. He owned a hotel I believe in Weston Super Mare which was built against the wishes of many. Colorful and controversial were Clive and Stuart."

Same frame/fork as above via CV sale and fixed gear rebuild. Used what was in part bin (minus new chain) to keep it cheap. Just finished the shakedown 25 mile ride and bike performed well. For commuter duty and the part bin 42x14 gearing is a tad high but works on my flat to rolling commute. Swapped the seatpost/saddle from 78 trek until I can find another post/saddle. Cool to be riding a frame on a glorious May day that is one year younger than myself--It appears to be a 1972 frame but who knows. Still a sweet frame of likely English origin though I personally do believe it to be a CS. Do dig the wrap around seat stays, cool detail.

I did remove the reynolds decals just b/c it seemed like a reach to be one of the race team bikes. With the campy drops and fork tips + old yellow color, I figure frame is 531, probably db but perhaps just butted. Having said that built as a fixed even with parts bin stuff the bike is quite light so leaning towards 531 db.

You might want to start fresh with a new thread of your own to get some fresh eyes on this.
My expertise is very thin on these but with the Holdsworth style wrapover there should be some that know more.
It may be worthwhile to go down the Holdworth rabbit hole and hope for some cross pollination, here's a great link.
