Turns out my riding wasn’t done for the day. I was outta beer. Quick online order and back to the local brew house. About 2 miles, 100 feet of climbing, 136 oz of beer!

You know that scene in 2001 when the lunar astronauts gather for a pic around the excavated monolith and suddenly hear that piercing, high pitched tone? I wasn't about to go near it.

A very hot ride yesterday; I took the AO-8 as it had the rack bag on it to store extra drinks. I went down the coast through Brean and Berrow to Burnham, then turned inland towards Bridgwater. Over the Levels from there, passing through Woolavington, heading towards Westhay. A few wonderful off road miles then along the tracks and paths on Shapwick Heath Nature Reserve, rejoining the road at Glastonbury. More long straight flat roads from Glastonbury towards the Mendips, passing through Godney and Bleadney before starting the climb onto the Mendips in Easton.
The climb passed Deer Leap and Ebbor Gorge - I have to confess to getting off and pushing on the 25% section as the combination of 26 degree heat and a heavily laden AO-8 5-speed with lowest gear of 44x28 was asking too much of my knees. The tarmac towards the top of the south facing slope was starting to melt. Once over the climb I stopped in Priddy for an ice cream, then followed the lanes towards Charterhouse before taking the descent through Burrington Coombe. Burrington's (possibly spurious) claim to fame incidentally is that Reverend Augustus Toplady composed Rock Of Ages while sheltering from a storm in a cleft in the cliffs. Any interest in little facts about places by the way, or should I just concentrate on the routes?
Back at sea level it was the main road through Churchill before turning off and taking a route home through much quieter lanes, taking in Sandford, Puxton, and Locking, then using the cycle way across Weston to home. Just a shade over 65 miles, nearly 3 litres of fluid plus an ice cream taken on board, and much needed.
Looking across the Bristol Channel from Burnham-on-Sea sea front to West Somerset and the Quantocks. Hinkley Point towards the centre.
View back north on Burnham-on-Sea sea front. Steep Holme Island and Brean Down in the distance.
Glastonbury Tor from Shapwick Heath
Deer Leap, looking south across the Levels. Glastonbury Tor in the distance, now 10 miles behind me
Priddy Village green - much appreciated ice cream van in the background

Although not today, but last month I've been to numerous awesome places (been sick for a week now, recovering, gonna go for a ride asap). Here are a few snapshots. I've ridden my Corratec retro MTB and my 1993 Marin Redwood on these trails.
Lots more on my ig (vpbikestuff).

I decided to take a few days off work, and broke out the Camelbak for a mid day ride in the heat on the Motobecane GT. 98 degree heat index at 1pm. Still better than the air conditioning and sitting in front of a computer...
The wildflowers are popping in the heat after a wet Spring.
Had to detour around a bit of flooding.
Taking in a bit of shade before the last 5 miles back to the house.
Right before a local cop on his Fuji police bike stopped to chat a bit near a park and trailhead

ExPatTyke I love reading English travelogues. The place names are wonderful.
Late afternoon ride around UVA grounds today with the kiddo. We sprinted home to beat the thunderstorm. I have a pic but it posted sideways again and I’m tired of doing that.

Took the Trek 5200 out today along the waterfront. Caught this seaplane doing touch and go. Cool breeze and more areas opening to top it off.

Headed out to see what civil disobedience has wrought.
Downtown Seattle Macy's
Westlake Center, boarded up
Across the street, Westlake
All of Pike and Pine boarded up
Officers at Capitol Hill precinct
More officers. I could see one get a hard on when he saw my 64cm yellow Fuji. Most folks do
Young crowd talking. Eloquent, rational, the kind of folks I like to see demonstrating.
More of the same
Dropped down to waterfront for chowder at Ivar's. Good lunch, rode all of 100 feet to see a guy get clipped and go down screaming. 911 was good as the fire station is 1/2 block back
When the aid car shows cup, they come in virus protective gear. Rider had a mask, so did I. I think he did ok after the medics got there. Worried about his hip/acetabulum based on his leg appearance. Not a great way to finish. Rode through homeless encampment after. Eyes open, heart open.

I find looking at accounts of rides and Strava maps from other countries is fascinating - I like travelling and I've been lucky enough to have travelled and worked across Europe, but have never got any further than Groton in the USA. One day I will get back over the pond to see a bit more of the country.
For future posts I'll try and include a bit more (possibly useless!) information about the places, if that's of any interest?

Hopefully it'll be possible to do this in the near future. If you want some company on a ride in the area do drop me a line; it'd be great to get out for a ride.
Cheers Spaghetti Legs - one of the things I really like about this forum and the Bike Forums C and V Strava Club is the international nature of the content.

Today I wanted to get a sense of how Charlottesville was doing with the recent upheaval. I rode 19 miles, covering a good chunk of the town. Surprisingly, everything was very normal with no signs of any protest or extra police presence except as noted below. Ride included the downtown area, Courthouses, main police station, etc. I stopped at the brand new UVA memorial to enslaved labor that built the first buildings on the grounds. I was the only visitor and felt some tension as a cop eyeballed me suspiciously the whole time and another, seen in the pic, was checking it out with a dog.
BTW, for those who remember my less than epic ride documented in my Soloica thread, the Basso is all back together, including the blown out tire and rode well today, including a 1/2 mile stretch of gravel.

From yesterday - 46 miles north. Air was thick, but cool by the lake.
Bridge stop.
Got treated to both a Howard and a Linden at Isabella. Nothing but empty cars...

I hit the road before dawn this morning to beat the North Texas heat. No wind at all, but the humidity was brutal, although it was quite comfortable as long as I was moving. I stopped for a cappuccino at the 10 mile mark and ended up getting 29 miles in. The Brooks saddle I added several weeks ago is breaking in quite nicely and becoming very comfortable, and the shorter stem I installed at the same time has eliminated the occasional back pain I would experience. All in all, a great morning to ride.
Cheers!

Early ride today - approximately 33 miles as I continue to build up endurance after two years of sporadic riding. 4th day in the saddle this week and felt good after yesterday’s day off.
This hillside is awesome for getting a look at the different layers of the earth and soils over time. I’ll often see geology students from the local college here as part of their class.

Went for a ride uptown today to see how the pain in my right arm was after resting the arm for a day and a bit. Thursday the pain got so bad I had to call for a ride. That's the first time I've ever had to call for a ride. Pain was caused by pressure when my arm was pressed against my pillow one night as I slept. Today the pain is gone. Tomorrow I'm going for a longer ride.
Cheers

Took a rainy day ride to Pike forest about 15miles to try out the Raliegh MT-200 i recently finished. Nice ride no one in the Forest and the bike road really nice surprisingly light and nimble for a lesser 90's MTB.

Wow! Now that's a hard act to follow.
Up early this morning for a long ride. Took the catch-trail from my neighborhood onto the Snoqualmie Valley Trail and spent the day riding an Out n Back over to Cle Elum on the other side of Snoqualmie Pass. 112 miles all gravel, no cars and very few people. Gonna sleep well tonight.

Hardwood Creek and Sunrise Prairie Trails, Minnesota
The dirt road in the shot below parallels the trail, only a block west of it. So I chose that instead of the paved trails as much as possible, because the trail was kind of packed with people who had limited recreation options due to this pandemic scare.
Here is Hardwood Creek:
Along the trail, this is a berm that supports the bridge over the road in Forest Lake:
This is the only shot I took that shows the actual paved trail:
Lunch stop. Don Julio's is a run-down Mexican joint in a strip-mall, but they had this patio setup and were actually open for business:
Steak Fajita Burrito with Queso sauce and Frijoles Refritos on the side. This was delicious, despite the sad-looking building and banal surroundings. Bike parked nice and close.
A bit of humor along the trail:
The main objective for this ride; a visit with Mom and Dad:
"The Blessing of the Bike":
It was a pleasant day out, and I'm glad I went. This was just a straight out-and-back rail trail running along U.S. Highway 61. Not much scenery, but many interesting things to explore along the way.

These are very inspirational and remind me how its good to get out and explore whenever possible. Yesterday was local So Cal ride on an old Univega.
Riding along the coast it was nice crisp and cool morning.
Taking the high road here:
And finally heading home:
Ate a sandwich on the fly, so no good pictures of food :-(

Bam! Didn’t realize until just now, but you won the internet yesterday!
northbend I missed your post but that’s a helluva ride to Cle Elum and back. That gravel on the east side of the pass ain’t easy.
DQRider need more info on the bike - nice pics
I rode 60 miles 4500 feet climbing on the Supercorsa today. I did a big figure 8 route so I wouldn’t have to play pack mule and allow me to swing back by the house to refuel. I congratulate myself for getting back on the back after sitting on the porch comfy chair during the break. I often post pics from rides in and around Free Union Virginia, so if you’ve wondered “what is this wonderful bike Mecca?” I’ve included a pic of the “downtown”.
On a side note, I’ve been upping my mileage with plans for a more epic solo ride as part of a charity drive. Every year a group of local cyclists do a ride to raise money for clean water development in East Africa. It usually involves 2 day back to back century rides in June. This year the ride has been cancelled but the fundraising goes on with each rider logging the miles individually. In addition we’ve added fundraising for local food banks in Charlottesville and Denver. There are plenty of worthy causes in need these days, but if you have a little extra to spare, consider this one. Thanks. Mods, if this is a violation of any forum rules, send me a PM and I’ll edit it out.

northbend I missed your post but that’s a helluva ride to Cle Elum and back.
