Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Leader Love!

Scrod has set the bar very high both in terms of the elegance of his build as well as the photography. Also, the photographic setting is perfect for that bike. I've already posted my new build, but here it is again. The only future changes that are contemplated are to the saddle and seatpost, which are currently takeoffs from a bd Motobecane Messenger (aka naranja). I've had the chance to take it on a few hard rides with clipless road shoes after I glued on a rear tire, and am really impressed with the performance of this bike. The current 46 x 18 gearing feels ridiculously low when accelerating, climbing and braking (backpedalling), and I've ordered a 17T cog, which will give me the highest geared road FG bike in my fleet. Come this spring, I may even try a 46 x 16, which normally I only use on the track.

Don't have a Leader, but I'm-a post anyways.

Nice lookin' bike, Scrod. Throw a brake on it (yeah, yeah, I know), and clipless pedals (psssshhh) and I'd ride the eff out of it.

TT, your Leader is definitely a good example of pushing the weight and performance envelope on a budget. Rad.

I wouldn't mind having a Leader something-or-other some day. I've thought about building up a backup track bike for kicks n grins, to use for training at the 'drome when I just want to ride something different or if someone I know wants to ride and doesn't have a bike. Really, just looking for the slightest justification to n+1.
