Hoppe’s
Cleaning out the garage again and deeper!
Found these tucked in a corner...
Question...use the Hoppe’s Oil and the #9 in my precision ProGold Luber thingie(now empty) or throw away?
I would lubing derailleur, brakes, etc al.
Does this stuff go “bad”?

I wouldn't use it on my airplane, if I had one. But I'd use it on my bike if it seemed okay. Then again, I'd put crisco on my bike if that's all I had. Bicycle bearings and chains don't turn the rpm's or see the heat of an engine cooking the life out of them. But if having anything but maximum life out of your 25 dollar chain bothers you, then maybe you shouldn't use them.
My bottle of hoppes was brown-- I think. Don't know if it's not still around somewhere. Or maybe that went with the re-loading stuff that gotten taken by the trash people by mistake.

I wouldn't want the silicone to get on my brake surfaces. I've always heard silicone is hard to remove completely from a surface. Maybe that was just a painted surface such as in cars, where they used to hate repainting over a car that'd been waxed with silicone waxes.

I've used the Hoppe's for brakes and derailleurs. AFAIK it's just a light oil, easy to find and comes in convenient small bottles.

Of course, Birchwood Casey is the primary brand for home bluing and refinishing kits for firearms. I would be pleased to have those containers in my small vintage lube display case. Enjoy them!

Thin gun oil makes a good cable lube, in my experience. It's thin enough to run down a cable, unlike thicker oils you may have laying around.
