Have you ever self-medicated with tropical fish antibiotics?

I used to work for a reef and aquaria store, and yes, LOADS of people did this. Same exact medicine. Fraction of the cost.

I found the erythromycin was particularly good at getting rid of red cyanobacteria in my reef tank, and lung cookies. Plus you don't have to go to the doctor multiple times and beg like you need a kidney transplant and endure lectures about the difference between bacteria and viruses.

Lots of people without the income or insurance to go the "regular" route, so this doesn't surprise me.
Right now, we go to one of those community "emergency rooms" since we don't have health insurance. We pay the "cash price", which is still cheaper than an insurance premium with an outrageous deductible.

Cats and dogs are prescribed the same steroids as humans (medrol) for conditions like asthma, too, for what it's worth. Less money for more of them at a higher dose. Go figure.

Yeah, I noticed many years ago I could buy medications for animals from farm and ranch supply stores that would require a prescription for humans. Same with some solvents and other chemicals that were unavailable elsewhere. But I just used 'em on our critters as intended. Never needed them for myself, but I can see why some folks resort to that .

Isn't the pharmacist going to catch on if you aren't treating a trout?

Ooooh!
"Treating your trout"
A euphemism is born!
Or is that an euphemism? I get so confused with this English...
