davei1980 - I've been riding Beacon for 25 years. Fantastic place to ride. Once you get more confident start moving out to some of the area's other riding gems - Mt Spokane, Silver Mountain, Trails 257 & 97 in southern ID, Kettle Crest and plenty others.
BTW, I'll be at Beacon in about an hour.....

I remember when I got into mountain biking I thought the same as the OP, some years later I found myself on a mountain still thinking that mountain biking was hard.

** DISCLAIMER**
I ride Beacon practically everyday - It's been really wet here lately so I avoided it today and will reassess tomorrow.
I may be new to MTB but I know it's uncool to ride really wet single track because it tears it up for the next guy.

Yea - Beacon drains real well - the main issue is when the ground freezes and the air temp rises faster than the ground, then it turns into a slimy mess. Last night it was awesome (except for the snowflakes). Going up again today, but I will probably hang out on the down hill course (camp Sekani) side.

Nice! That is a badass SC!! I would LOVE to follow you around and learn some stuff after this crisis is over.
Now that it's sunny I think it will be NICE and sticky and tacky tomorrrow AM early!!
Maybe we should take this convo offline, but I want to explore the rocky (Sheilds/Minnehaha/Ezzy) side more in the AM. As I get more confident, looking for more challenging routes. Getting to where I can clean all green and some blue routes. I was thinking Upchuck route to the towers, then Pop Rocks to Masterblaster and cut back to Airport Elevator on Myth/Middle Myth. Let me know your thoughts. Last time I got down there I got lost on Granite Trail and I think I was on black/double black sections a few times. I did a lot of walking that day. Hoping to find some challenges on Pop Rocks. Eventually would like to graduate to Committment Issues and the other blacks. I tried Evil Twin last week but I think I got on to Good Twin a few times by mistake.
Oh man. I am looking forward to tomorrow's ride now! I rode from my house to the top of Northwood on pavement today just to keep in routine.
