1998 Specialized Stumpjumper m2 fork?

I picked up a decent framset at a sale recently but it has no fork. The frame is really light. I am thinking i want to use a rigid fork. Does anyone know of a rigid inch and 1/8 fork that would work with this? I assume it has to have a suspension offset to allow the geometry to be correct. Id like to build it up as a nice all-arounder.

According to bicycle bluebook...

It originally had a suspended fork. I forget which one, but seraching bicyclebluebook.com for that model will tell you the OEM fork brand and model. I also just picked up one of these incomplete as a project bike. Good luck!

My '97 Stumpjumper M2 has a Manitou SX Titanium fork, although I seem to remember the '98 switching to a Rock Shox Judy?

98 Stumpjumper FSR

My 98 Stumpjumper has a Judy SL suspension front fork. That being said , yesterday I was riding and the left fork tube adjustable cap flew off and not to be found. Does anyone know where to buy one? I have searched the web without success.
Thanks,.

Old thread, but to be definitive - 1998 Stumpjumpers had Answer Manitou forks. I have one in my garage. They had been using Judy forks through 1997.

It might not make sense to use one of these frames with a rigid fork. They were extremely stiff (light too), and even with the Manitou I feel every pebble through the back wheel.

Thanks,.
I found the fork cap in Seattle off an old frontend!! I cut a 3/8 long piece of 1/2 inch hard sprinkler riser for the spring spacer that goes on the bottom of the spring, Like brand new now. I actually spaced both springs the same!!
My 98 Stumpjumper came with Judy Suspension!!
Thanks

I suppose it's possible that early 1998 builds were using up the supply of Judys. I post to a bass players' forum where people will talk all day long about differences in fret wire you might see on a '62 P-bass early in the cycle, but never after about October (or whatever).
