it's been almost three years since i updated my photos here. so... my daughter (3 years old) and i riding in a closed-streets event recently here in Eugene, OR. the city closed a series of streets on a Sunday for about 5 hours. it was a great time to get out and ride without the typical worries of kids in traffic. it was a real street party.

she rode/kicked/coasted 2.6 miles that day, which really impressed me. the photo was taken at the end of her ride.
original URL here: https://eugenedailynews.com/2011/09/1...n-the-streets/

i towed the trailer and her kick bike—we take the trailer to and from places, and then she rides the kick bike when we arrive. when she's tired, well, she can relax in the trailer and i tie her bike to the back of the trailer with a bungee. a fantastic system for the ever-growing.

We have an xtracycle that can hold 2-3 kids and 2 kids' bikes and a bunch of gear / groceries. We have a 4 year old that rides at 16" specialized hotrock, and 2 year old that rides a strider. The 4 year old can bike forever on that bike! We have been having a lot of fun doing more family biking over the course of the last year.

This pic was taken just after a CM ride (Fort Worth has a very peaceful CM group/Kid friendly); my daughter was just about to fall asleep.

Been riding lots (for me,LOL) lately, enjoying the "good spell" I've been having with my spinal injuries. My best riding bud? Nick,my son (see post above this one).

Today we drove down to Abingdon,VA (about 15 miles from driveway to trail parking) and rode over 16 miles worth of the Virginia Creeper trail, well into the darkness hours. Nick's farthest ride to date, his first ever night ride. Had a blast, despite him having had a crash (a nice, fast one-note,fast for a 16" wheeled bike-too).

(this was around mile 1.49 out of 16+)

(yes,Nick is in that pic,LOL)

Big fun for a rail-trail (I usually ride singletrack if not out and about the city )

kandyredcoi, that cream bike on the left looks like mine, but with pretty matching seat and handlebar grips For some reason it makes me happy to see it.

I don't really take anyone but myself out on bike rides so far, but I have a neat trailer which was planned for a beagle ride. It's a new looking green Instep that I THINK matches my milk crate and windbreaker. If I ever actually use it in cool weather I'll look really awesome, hehe.

That almost makes it sound like you bought the happy kids at the grocery store....

All kidding aside, that looks like a fun family outing! And we can all be thankful for times like that.

ebartom, what do you use for seating on the xtracycle? I'm thinking xtracycle might be my best bet for hauling my 1 and 3 years olds, but I haven't gotten a good look at seating options yet.

We've got three seating options that we use -- a peapod seat and stoker bar (little one in the peapod, big one in front with stoker), a custom roundabout seat ( https://www.flickr.com/photos/26572100@N05/4571881396/) and the bare snap deck with stoker bar and double handles (mentioned in about the middle of this blog post https://familyride.wordpress.com/2011...p-burgerville/).

For a 1 and 3 year old, you'll definitely want at least one 5-point harness, and maybe two. So I'd go for one of the first two options, or with two peapods. Our only complaint with the peapod is that it takes up too much cargo space in the panniers -- that's why we ended up getting the roundabout. But the peapod is bigger and more enveloping and better for naps. The peapod we have is the old lte. The new one that xtracycle sells now (the yepp) might block the panniers less. It's higher up. But it still has pretty significant foot rests based on the photos. Our biggest cargo constraint was that we wanted to be able to tow a kids' bike (or two) while carrying both kids. That just barely works with our peapod.
