Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Scurvy isn't really an issue until 2-3 months pass. Hardly anyone is at sea that long these days.

That is still "hardly anyone" relative to the number of people on boats and ships, especially compared to previous centuries. And hopefully they could be resupplied from shore; otherwise they'd have been starving to death anyway. And had refrigeration.

Oh and WhyFi - had a long-ish meeting today and used a 140-grit diamond plate to work up a good lather on my Khao Men, then put an edge on my Kuro Kumo using only that. Not the greatest edge, but satisfying.

In their world, it was "everyone". Of course, I'm not talking scurvy, but I do remember they were stuck on those ships for a good long while.

You could get one. They're super easy to operate, just like riding a bike.

Depends.

This time we took two limes, a lemon, and various other ascorbutic herbs, fruits, and vegetables.

That's interesting. I was going to toss in the "because you weren't born yet" thing, but that contraption lasted a lot longer than I would have expected.

Seems like it would have been on the news and I'd have at least a vague memory of it.

Also, the tornado was in July and the video footage is from the winter???

It's more dramatic with a light dusting of snow.

Gin and tonic with lemon. For medicinal purposes.

Hey MoAlpha I need a sailing consult.

A friend of mine has a sailboat but I believe has fairly limited experience. I know he has sailed some but I think just day trips in the Chesapeake and 20 years ago on some lake near Austin he even lost a catamaran in a storm.

Anyway he plans to sail from Baltimore to Canary Islands, either solo or with his adult son.

Is that reasonable? Seems kinda risky to this landlubber. He has a history of TBI and slightly impaired judgement, although it’s generally well compensated.
