There is nothing like a fresh paved road. Well, maybe a velodrome. But I wouldn't know.

The problem will be the motorists driving even faster on the smooth road.

Near me, I had Lakeview Rd repaved in Rockville Centre. It was nice a afterward.

I noticed a number of freshly paved roads this summer. NY 108 is one of my favorite.

2 years ago when they had the US Open at Bethpage, they paved Round Swamp Road... very fast.

Thought we might get rained out this morning. We persevered and got a 7AM ride to TOBAY from BP. It cleared up quick and ended up a nice day, excepting the 15mph N wind all the back !.

Begs the question, what the heck is the State waiting for on the TOBAY extension to Captree ?.

The bike path from Tobay to Captree is reportedly being held up by the Town of Oyster Bay over concerns of the path crossing the entrance to their beach parking lot. Why this wasn't resolved earlier is a mystery. Not like the path planning and construction was some sort of secret. Situations like this were addressed at several other road crossings further east.

It's ground level so someone is gonna die there.

4:30PM a TT guy is on a training run. He's heading east with a tailwind doing 25mph. At the same time someone piles the kids into their huge SUV, turns on the AC and the radio. They head of of the Tobay parking lot and approach Ocean Parkway. There's a stop sigh but they roll up looking left to see if there's any cars. They see none and roll forward as the TT guy slams into them.

This summer is over but next summer, someone is going to die.

How did they address this? I hope they didn't just put up stop signs, because we all know how well those work on the streets.

Your point is well taken, especially as many roadies and tri-geeks like to use the JB and Ocean paths for multiple lap workouts at speed. Except at field 5, there's nothing really preventing folks from puttin' the hammer down.

The at grade crossings of the Captree extension are a typical design for bike paths, you see them everywhere there's been a rail-trail conversion that runs thru residential and developed area's. Folks driving AND cycling are going to have to learn to be cautious, possibly some add'l sandwich board signage will be installed. OTOH, there's only 6 such crossings in 10 miles, so not too onerous.

School's open, plenty of school buses on the roads.

The Jones Beach and Bethpage paths had minimal traffic.

Windy 40 mile Huntington Bay loop. About 7 of us delayed rollout time so Mrs & myself could make it (as I came straight from work), which was much appreciated.

Today seemed to be Friendly Pedestrian (many smiles, waves, good mornings) and Jackass Driver Day (close and fast passes). Oh well. Sundays are usually better.

We did a short 30 today out of Bethpage, my buddy was running it of steam. I’m in my “South Huntington” period, been exploring and finding all kinds of good routes, Melville Rd., Depot, Rogues Path, Lake Ave., Maplewood, Pigeon Hill. Having fun looking around this stuff, all good shoulders. Trying to expand and vary the routes from the same old stuff.

A question for the south shore L.I. riders, does anyone know who uses the route markers with a white painted “L” ?. They start down on Park Ave. in Wantagh, head NE, out the LIE service road, down Dix Hills, etc...., I keep running into them, would love to see a map.

It was a long ride home.

20 bucks might just about be enough. Someone smarter than me who may or may not have been on the back seat of that tandem and who may have been hungry may have made the same suggestion Glen did.

Glen Cove Avenue repaved

Glen Cove Avenue, Glen Head
Great news! Glen Cove Avenue has been repaved, entire length as of last night.
Glenwood Road, Glen Head Road, and Kissam Lane also repaved since the start of September.

Another windy day.... sort of like riding up a hill that never ends.

58 miles with half tailwind and 2/3 headwind.
