Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Counting your blessings?

If it got up to 100F here tomorrow I would go out and sun myself, like a snake.

Not true. Elite med students get pulled in multiple directions depending on their motivations, which include humanitarian concerns and intellectual passions, in addition to money and prestige. In general, the better the school, the more students go into academic careers, which can pay well, but are anything but easy.

Over-generalization.

Actually I was taught that the best specialties are known as the “ROAD” to happiness:
Radiology, Ophthalmology, Anesthesiology, Dermatology.

So your buddy is set!

My brother-in-law is an anesthesiologist and he lives pretty well. Probably works more than hours than a dermatologist, though.

Seems to me that witch doctors have it easy, too. Office hours (or less), they basically just sit there, ask a few questions, and give you drugs.

Just thought I would ask, not sure what I thought a covenant doctor job would be, but dermatologist wasn’t on the list.

Starting to wish I had the drive to become a doctor. I don’t think I would have survived residency. I like sleep and structure.

Dermatology does have that reputation. So does anesthesiology: in at 6 out at 2.

Not as much as freezing for weeks on end.

Don't forget the 12 weeks of vacation.

For the sake of their kids my brother-in-law moved to a group where he works well into the afternoon/evening. Sacrifice.

Depends on how cold you're talking. Admittedly I only lived where there was winter for a few years but I enjoyed building a fire and snow biking and dressing warm and no air conditioning and I really didn't mind being cold sometimes. I didn't have to work there, though, and commuted off the mountain for that.
The heat just ruins everything if you like to be outside. Even just a quick trip to the store and I get all sweaty and super uncomfortable. I'm sitting on my couch typing this and I am sweating at 7:00. The a/c is on but doesn't do enough. If I could convince Mrs. John to move I would want someplace cooler, even if that means some winter.

Slash went through. Tire had water and grit on the inside of it. Seems like I can’t catch a break lately.
Planning on going the tubeless route, but for now I think I found a pair of gently used gators I am hoping to pick up for cheap.

Ooh, even the Dutch are down with Alexander's Ragtime Band. Baritone Sax solo is pretty sweet on this one.

Actually, Jacksonville State in Alabama is known as a great band program. It is very good and enormous. Google it.

Is your job secure? Not a great time to be an airline employee.

See rjones28's economic spreadsheet.
