Seems like the scene is down around here
1. Texas Cup points competition canceled for 2020. They say it will be back for 2021, in new format. But this is where they kept track of standings for the different events to determine individual and team winners in different categories.
2. One of the 3 weeknight crits was just canceled due to lack of venue.
3. The opening circuit race canceled this year due to road closure.
4. Opening RR/crit/TT of the season. 9 competitors in the 40+.
And you go down the list further and it seems like things are trending down in the North Texas area. Maybe it will bounce back. 50+ is better than 40+ now, my friend's theory is that the Lance Armstrong effect has now officially aged out and there is no next generation.

One of the two most prominent bicycle rallies in Dallas just announced they are done after 28 years. Cost of police doubled, so they threw in the towel.

Been saying this for a long time. Yes it is still the Lance fallout. Lance generation is now in 40+ and 50+ racing - very few new have come to the sport since then.
Rider days are up this year so far (YTD) but that is solely because of Fondos and Fun Rides being sanctioned under USA Cycling.
It has taken me 3 months to receive any state championship applications. The tally stands currently at 2 apps for crit, 1 for cross, 0 TT, 0 Road Race. There are 0 road races on the schedule for this year. We decided to try and permit a race as the local association and call on as many teams as possible to man it so we can have one. We will have to ask the other sanciotning body that still puts on TT's for the 50+, 60+, 70+, and 80+ crowd to see if we can double sanction so we can have 1 TT for the year and make it a state championship.
This includes Chicago. An area that has been a racing powerhouse in the midwest since racing in America began. Partial home field of Superweek.
It's been dead for a while. If you guys figure out how to fix it let me know. I will be busy still being out there.

When I moved here the racing was equally well attended at both USAC and ABR events. MATTs is ABR. So they do their own "State Championship". In fact depending on the event I believe you can also say you're the national champion. Knew a guy who would show up every year and toe the line hoping the other 80+ rider would die or stop showing up just so he could be a national champion. Happened one year. He walked around for years with that national jersey under his shirt just so that when servers at the bar doubt him ask he could unzip and show them the proof. Billy. Great guy.
We had a State TT downstate last year. Those guys have thrown in the towel to the best of my knowledge.

Those sound like ABR events. ABR is American Bicycle Racing. Another sanctioning body that was started a bunch of years back as an answer for those who were tired of USA Cycling. We had reciprocity for years but USAC ended that a bunch of years back during their effort to bring all outstanding sanctioning bodies to their knees (OBRA, BRAC, NEBRA, etc) ABR is/was popular here, Ohio, and Northern California it seemed.
