What's your resting heart rate and what's your lowest heart rate when sleeping?

So in 2018 and 2019 I worked too much (sat at desk all day) and got no exercise, weighed in a little over 260 lbs (I'm 5-10, 47 years old). At the beginning of April of this year I started working from home, and in late April starting riding three times a week. I normally ride 10 miles twice during week and then 15-17 miles once on the weekend. Over the last month, when riding my avg heart rate is 132-137 per ride. I'm currently down to 222 lbs.

Here's my what has me a little concerned. My resting heart rate, say sitting on couch watching TV, is normally around 55-60 bpm. Sometimes dips to low 50's or high 40's. When I sleep, it's normally around 40-45 bpm, but two of the last three nights it's got down to 37 bpm.

Should this be concerning? I don't smoke, drink alcohol, and no coffee or soda.

What kind of numbers do you guys have?

Think about this a second or two longer and you'll realize how irrelevant it is to your situation. Best to see your doctor if you are concerned.

I'm taller, heavier, and older than you. My resting is around 55 to 60. Average on rides is around 120 or so. Average distance is around 30 miles per ride.

How do you measure your heart rate when you sleep?

Glenn

I absolutely will see a doctor if or when I get to a point where I think I need to. I was just in for a check up a couple of weeks ago and was told heart sounded good. Don't know if blood work would indicate any heart issues but had blood work done as well.

I thought I'd ask here because there are other plus size riders here.

Thanks Glenn. I have an apple watch (3rd Gen) that I get my sleeping heart rate info from. When I ride I use a garmin forerunner 35 with heartrate monitor.

if you are asking the question, then you are concerned. the only way to get good answers is to talk to your doctor. I asked the same questions to my doctor a couple of years ago and he scheduled me with a stress test a week later. My results were good. Its good to have things verified by a qualified professional.

I used to have those HR numbers. Now I have a pacemaker, implanted 4 weeks ago, set to 60 bpm. According to my cardiologist, a stress EKG in May or June showed my heart to be in great shape, except for rate regulation. I'm a lot older, so I have, presumably, fewer years to be at risk than you do.

Did you tell your doc about you HR numbers? Did he not suggest a wearable medically accurate HR monitor fo 1, 14, or 30 days? Rate control problems don't necessarily show up on stress EKGs.

I recommend doing some research on bradycardia. I'd talk with your doc, based on what I've been heard and read of the dangers of a low HR for a non-elite-athlete.

I'm 47 and been a runner for 30 years and triathlete for the last five. Your HR sounds exactly like mine.

Doc knows my history and was concerned enough to have an EKG reading and a sonogram done.

I was given a clean bill of health ... but it wouldn't hurt to ask for the EKG and sonogram (both were covered under insurance).

My resting averages 64 and my sleeping heart rate averages About 54. I’m 46 6’2 244 and have been active working but just got back into cycling in July 2020 after a 6 year hiatus.

Resting is 55-60 and sleeping avg 40-45. I generally have a low HR, but I was in the hospital after a knee surgery and the alarm was going off for low heart rate, so they kept having to turn it down and they clocked my low at 36.

resting is 42-46bpm, when i meditate in my morning meetings at work (input not needed, presence is required), i can focus and get it to 35-37bpm. When i get routine labs done and they check my vitals i do it on purpose to make their equipment alarm haha!

i'm 38, 200lbs

IIRC the doctor doing anesthesia for my colonoscopy said he wouldn't worry as long as the resting rate was 45 or more. I conveniently forgot ever seeing a lower pulse at that point.

But I talk cycling with my cardiologist. You might want to see a specialist to see if there's anything worth the worrying you're doing.

Average resting is 60-62. Average riding is around 130. Max is 193. When I was younger I would hit 205 regularly. No idea what it is when sleeping.
