Maybe older people like polls more? I'm on the younger side of the chart and didn't answer this poll.

I'm pretty sure that the older members have stuck with their trusty rim brakes, and the younger members are part of the so called disk generation. As you can see from the poll numbers, disk brakes are truly dangerous.

I’d give anything to be 51 again.

That would be wrong too. I am 82 and love disc brakes. They are a true improvement. Oh and they are NOT dangerous.

Just a thot. Maybe the reason that there are so many older replies is the fact us older people can still read.

I wonder how many of us in the 60 - 80 demographic would admit to their age anywhere else. The majority of the riders that show up for local weekend rides up here are in the 20 - 40 bracket, and most of them think I'm in my 50's. If they can't tell the difference between a weak 50 y/o and a strong 72 yo, who am I to divest them of their illusions? Seems as though there are a lot of stereotypes associated with just about any age bracket. It pays to remember that they are just that, stereotypes. "Average" is just a statistical construct with no relevance to any individual case. In any case, nice to know I'm in good company.

I realize the poll is closed but I am 58. I go through phases. I started out riding a mountain bike in my late 30's. And now I'm spending more time on a road bike. But I really miss the mountain bike. I just don't ride enough to get myself in the kind of shape it takes to tackle the trails up the road from my house. If I could ride the road bike consistently and drop some weight I'd be in a better position to hop on the mountain bike and feel like a kid again. But given the shape I'm in, the mountain bike will just make me feel even older.

The poll has been closed. Not sure why or how long it was open for.

Damn I'm 20 and just got into cycling. Currently on a Diamondback Overdrive 29ner, hardtail that I've had for the past 3 years but only gotten to really riding for the past 3 months. So far in the 3 months I've ridden about 400 miles and now am able to go on 50-60 mile trips. However, I am planning on getting a gravel bike in a couple months, probably the Specialized Diverge or a Canyon Grail and I hope I'll be able to put 2k miles each year. I find biking really fun, especially long rides, even better when they're scenic and there's not a lot of cars.

Am relatively new here but after reading multiple threads I have encountered a lot of wisdom, some good natured fun and a caring attitude toward furthering each other’s enjoyment of the sport. Or as I like to call it, riding your@$$ around.
Thought a quick roll call of ages would be interesting since I see posters in their 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s and even 80s.

I fall into the 60-70 range, closer to 70 than I would like to admit. At least I'm still able to get out on early morning 1-hr. bike rides and hiking and backpacking (when the fires aren't polluting the air

It's affecting riding...at pedailng, I'm feeling really strong, but my miles are limited by my hands, feet, shoulder problems...

My wife keeps telling me I'm just a well managed case of Peter Pan syndrome. She's probably right, and I know she's the best management I could ever hope for. Smart enough to know an illusion when I see one, still crazy enough to follow it.

I'm almost 63. I've loved bikes since I was a kid. I started really getting into in my late twenties. When that started all I had was a used Varsity and later a used Schwinn Traveler III. I removed the lazy levers, added brake lever hoods and leather bar tape and toe clips to make them more like real road bikes. Eighteen years later I got a new 2004 Schwinn Supersport that I still have.
I've never been on a tour, a group ride, racing etc. I've commuted a little bit but otherwise strictly recreational. I do live in an area where no one over twelve rides a bike so I'm mostly solo.
The plan is to stay in shape and ride as long as I can.

Beautiful bike Fred. Sure like the finish of the components. With most of the new bikes they are black which in my opinion removes the jewelry.
