That's an awesome bike Sixty. My dad bought that Kuwahara in Vancouver, BC when he was in his twenties. I want to find an old Apollo road bike to make it a pair. They come up on craigslist here every so often.. Hmm.

I think soon the GT will be getting a motor, and will become my "car".

I finally have enough parts on it that the 8500 could be considered a bike now:

It's kind of kludged together right now (Notice there isn't even a rear brake cable) and I need a slightly longer seatpost and stem for it to fit correctly, but after a quick ride test ride I think it will be a great bike with the right stuff on it. I also have to decide what type of handlebars I want on it.

Right now I have 26"x1.5" tires on it, and they seem to soak up vibration pretty well.

Here's my mid to late 90's Nishiki Manitoba. I rescued it from the trash, replaced everything on it except the cranks (and those will get upgraded this year). I am finishing up building a dynohub wheelset (using the rims in this pic) so this is pretty close to where it sits now.

With the fender extensions it was already one of the cleanest running bikes I own and it has not been washed since mid winter and we are in our spring thaw now... a little wax and good fenders go a long way to keeping crud off the frame.

don't know if this qualifies as "hybridized" but I took a perfectly good used MTB and suited it up (at some expense) for storm commuting in the dark. which I only did three times. I also rode it a little last summer. it's a good bike and I'm hoping to ride it again this year for something. maybe I'll take the fenders off.

I finally got done shaving down my other barend so I could have barend mounted controls. I've had it out on a mellow trail ride and put some road miles in and I love it! Mellow trail rides and road miles lend themselves to mostly having hands on the barends and just moving to the flats for long grinding climbs or just to sit up for a while for a change of pace.

I could use some longer grips. Perhaps some track grips cut to fit. And the bar could stand to have a couple or more inches removed from it. I'm gonna move the barends in to simulate a 50cm bar and see how I like it. It's at 60cm right now.

"WOW" Thats different and actually looks practical. Just need some grips on the flat bars or you could just use some road bike bar tape.

I thought hybridizing a MTB was putting slicker tires on it.

Here's my 1996 Cannondale M900 with fat slicks on it

I tried using the clip pedals with this but just don't like them - or the straps or cages. Removed the straps and cages on all my pedals.



Here's my 1997 Cannondale Super V2000 with Citywolf 26 x 1.5s on it



This bike is brand new! I hate to change out any of the components, but I can't do the grip shifters anymore. I'm probably going to change out to rapid fire shifters so I can use it again.

more or less also i've noticed most "hybrid" mtbs also sport some kind of bar ends or have another kind of handlebars like trekking or drop bars

i've contemplated putting my brakes and gear shifts on the drop bars.. looks good Lester.. I'd trim down the width of the handle bars too

Michelin Country Rock. I like them quite a bit. Like the Michelin Dynamics, they could stand a little better cornering grip, IMO. Real bummer is that I got my Country Rocks for around $12.00 apiece a couple years ago, now they're going for $22 (but with free tubes at Bike Tires Direct).

I just took the bar ends off all my bikes about a week ago. I started to do it on just one to try it, but went all the way and now none of them have bar ends. What have you done to your Hardrock? I have an old Hardrock, too.

This is my Specialized Hard Rock, I think it's a 1999, but not for sure... still in great shape. Thinking about getting a Specialized Sirrus Elite, anybody have one of those?

my pics are upthread in post #35.. I've put slick tires on, put on bar ends and also chopped down the handlebars so they aren't super wide. i was lucky and it was already a rigid fork so i didnt have to hunt one down

eventually i'd like to switch out to a trekkin crankset with a 48 big ring.. finally am in good enough shape to use the lowest (highest?) gear on the 42t ring

You're in high gear when you're in your big ring and small cog. Same as in a car, the high gear is the one you use at top speed.

If I have not been riding my 20 on long trips I have been riding that Moulden like I stole it... it was really a gift.

It curbs out at less than 24 pounds with the rack and fenders and is a veritable rocket on everything from tarmac to trail... was coming home last night and caught this young fellow on a Cannondale who was mashing it up a shorter hill at good clip and spun up beside him, commented about the nice weather, and kept on going.

Figure that with spring arriving late a lot of people don't have their legs back but I never stop riding... the kid followed me for about a km at a decent pace before we turned off in different directions but he never passed me on the incline. After my road bikes, this is one of the fastest bikes I own and it does not give up much and can handle some pretty severe use and abuse.

The Moulden has become my stealth project and I hope to have the re-finishing work done in a few weeks.
