I did my first century!
so as title says says it i did my first century, this happened last saturday. honestly did not know what a century ride was until i joined these forums about a year ago. have since been mostly inactive but bikeforums might be only people to understand my excitement.
It was on a to do list since i first realized what it was and although last winter i gained more weight than usual and have also been less active. i went for it last saturday. we had a long weekend here so i saw it as having an extra recovery day. ended up having to do it solo since buddy who i usually do these things with caught covid a few weeks ago and lung capacity is still not optimal.
i probably have record for slowest century ride recorded but i did do it. final number 178.4 km / 110.85 miles was just shy of 12 hours moving time and total time in general around 14.5 to 15 hours. i could very likely have shaved off about 30 ish minutes maybe more due to various reasons (could not find bikepath google was sending me to, various unnecessary delays cause i couldn't find something in back pack, should have probably started stretching before shoulders and neck started feeling sore, etc)
i would like to do one again and have learned some lessons from it all along with at least one bike change i'd like to do for my own comfort.

Congratulations!
I was thinking about riding a century today, but it's late afternoon and I haven't started yet. Not a good sign. It's such a nice day, though....

Wow great job man. I'm on my 3rd year of cycling and hoping to get to 100miles by next summer. Currently at 45-55mile ranges 2-3x per week. You sure are motivating me sir!

Congratulations, phile ! It's a great feeling when you've knocked down your first century, since they seem so imposing beforehand. Hope your buddy is starting to feel better.

I have never seen one of these bikes so would appreciate a pic if you can?
I have seen Van Dessel bikes which are very nice.

Well done!
It's an amazing feeling the first time isn't it?
Although most of us grizzled long distance riders think nothing of going out for an imperial century or a metric double (or triple, or quadruple etc. etc.) I think it's important to be reminded just how much of an achievement it is to reach the magic number, and I absolutely love hearing about people doing it for the first time as it brings back the feeling and I absolutely love seeing the elation of people conquering a goal. I'll always give more high-fives to the first timer than the hundredth timer ;-)
I wish many happy miles ahead of you

next major challenge is everesting, but want a couple more double metric centuries under my belt before i do that. that said my absolute hardest ride was a metric century i did in january under sub zero temperatures (celsius). i went at it thinking its a quick 100 no biggie, didn't take the whole cold draining me into account. my body was not happy

I am on a low calorie diet now, to lose body fat. When I have lost more weight, I may try for 100 km in a day, not miles. To get up to 100 miles in a day, is a much bigger challenge for some of us.

Treasure that memory. I wish I could remember my first 100 mile ride but I can't. I do recall the joy of exploring further and further away and know I did it well before the Avocet 30 cycling computer, the closest measuring device if I recall was a French device you attached to the front fork and it mechanically clicked away. Hueret. Or was that my rear derailleur.
Everesting in Holland? There are some steep hills in the Southern part near Belgium border? I was going to do Michael's "Race around the Netherlands" last year but we can guess why not. GL on the Everest. I think the most I did in one day was 26,000+ feet and 221 miles but I did get bit by a dog, slowed me down.
