Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Sadly this one has noticeably more traffic than it did a few years ago. You can see on the left side of that Google image where a subdivision was being added.
Looks to me like the kinda road that has a posted speed limit of 45 and locals are pulling their wide ass boat trailer down the road at 60 mph. They never get over because of the sanctity of the double yellow so you get to share that little 15' lane with them.

I gotta have at least a couple feet worth of bailout lane.

I think that area it's 40 mph. Not many boats because it's inland. Biggest nuisance are roaring pickup trucks. This is where there's a rumble strip on the center lane so passing vehicles sound like a machine gun.

Rode 60 miles today, with 4500 feet of climbing. Garmin 520 says "Recovery Time = 53 hours" - Wut? I may need to refine my HR target zones. It thinks I spent most of the ride in Z4.

I am so lucky in my route options. You guys prolly see more traffic in an hour than I see in a hundred mile ride.

Probably not if they left it in, but if they pulled it out, all the bones that were broken would be pretty darn loose.

Yeah, same here. Also some roads that not only don't have a shoulder, but also don't have a yellow line in the middle because they're narrower than two lanes.

Those usually aren't bad. Very low traffic. Still a bit nerve wracking on blind corners.

This one was beautiful!

The road pictures are interesting. I am sure it's regionally different, but around here a "double yellow line road" typically has more traffic and should be avoided. The back-roads typically do not have these lines. The irony is the double-yellow lined roads usually do not have chipseal or stupid potholes, so it's a tough balance to find the sweet spot. There are a few lined roads that are not used much and are actually pretty good to ride on.

I don't mind the noise. It means the driver's probably not gonna put me in the ditch.

Our little pear tree yielded about a dozen good pears this year. Many of them went into chutney. We ate the rest.
