That's why I'm thinking 84'. I have seen a few 85's and they had a unicrown fork. The decals are gone too.

I think I have already decided it's a keeper.

Here are two catches from this week.

The first one is a Marinoni track bike from 1977 (I think Marinoni started in 1976) , hubs dated 1974. Full record track group !







The second one is an Argon 18 , full near mint Chorus group and columbus SP frame. I love the paint! It looks even better in person.

If I told you I'd have to kill you... Seriously , same places as everyone else, I just cleary state that I want to buy the bike for the asking price when sending an email or calling. You also need to be quick and have the cash available when needed.

They don't, really. People usually just don't search every ads before posting their bikes. Got those from regular for sale ads.

We were shopping in the neighborhood Sunday afternoon, changed plans and decided to go home for lunch. I found this Ross EuroSport sulking against a tree on the sidewalk, behind a parked car. I stopped the car and confirmed with the resident that the bike was put out to pasture. She was quickly led to the car and carefully put in the trunk. So, here she is, after a shower and scrub. I still can't believe I got a bike for free in this area.



Only thing I don't like is that she has 26" wheels (steel of course, chrome slightly rusted all over) with 26" x 1-3/8 tires. The clamps are there but the bottle cage is missing. The fork is chromed at the bottom. She even has the freewheeling bottom bracket. I was wondering what the black ring was at the center of the chain ring and then read about the freewheeling bottom bracket here. There is a gash in the paint on the main tube towards the saddle but besides that the paint is fine. There are no size or year markings that I could see, too. Wonder why she has 26"" wheels? Did LBS put smaller wheels for shorter riders?

Wow both of those are super rare finds.. The marinoni is just wow, and I never saw such an "old" Argon 18, I just kinda figured them for being new alu/carb bikes from recent times, weird when you see an older steel framed bike from a company like that.

Your Ross appears to have a one piece Ashtabula crank and not a Front Freewheel. The Ashtabula crank + the 26" rims = Dept. Store bike. Nice find nonetheless.

Very nice catches, beats going to the dump. Track frames have really gone through the roof.

They have worked for me in the past. I had two different WTB ads up in the past and both worked well. One was WTB track bike and I didn't list what size I was looking for or anything. I just said my conversion wouldn't cut it anymore, and I wanted to ride the local velodrome. I never thought that one would work until I ended up buying an 84 Fuji Track bike that was mint complete for $300. I parted it out at variously places (frameset went for $360 on Ebay), and I even kept a few parts. The other WTB was road bikes that don't have the words huffy, magna, free spirit, Varsity or Continental on them. I got a few reasonable lower to mid-range models for $20-50 and a complete Miyata with a bunch of C-record and super Record with another wheelset and frameset for $200. I haven't tried one in the last year, but they do sometimes work.

This past week was incredible!

I finally landed that early Durango built Barracuda that I always wanted and two days later the Holy Grail lands at my feet... I picked up both bikes (from different owners) for only $100.00. I still can't believe it!

Scored this Bianchi, albeit an asian model, for $15 off of CL. Have a set of Nitto bars and a prettier stem ready to go on.

Yes, it has a 1 piece crank but it does seem to have a freewheeling bottom bracket. I rode it and when I stop paddling, the chain keeps going with the rear wheel. Also, it has a LBS sticker, with 3 addresses in Monmouth County, NJ. So far, I have been able to buy only 1 bike with 27" wheels, a low end Miata in near mint condition, came with a manual. This is my third bike with 26" rims.

Over at Barracuda - Totally Driven, www.barracudebicycles.com they do a good job of documenting the earlier, Pre-Ross buyout, Barracudas. If you're down to buy, there is a for sale section. I am sorry to say that I will likely be repainting that bike, please forgive me. The paint on the chainstays and on the top tube is fairly haggard. And... I am not a big fan of pink/purple bikes. If it was celeste, I would leave it, black definately, red maybe, but pink I just cannot do.

That is a great deal indeed. I bought an "Asian Bianchi" in 1982, a Bianchi Limited. Still one of my best bikes, and my wife still loves riding it. They did some nice tricks with the geometry that made it an extremely comfortable racing frame.

I would be up for selling those bars, they are just plain jane aluminum mustache bars, with a slight rise. A bit scuffed at that.
