a tool box or two is handy, for sure, but I also employ an old dresser from my childhood, which my Dad also used as a kid. we never chucked it & it followed me my whole life. on top I have short baker's racks with plastic storage bins. opposite that is a workbench with a shelf under. my tool boxes are on the floor. but I gotta tell ya, that old dresser is great to have!

12 year old thread resurrection!!!!
Tool storage isn't cheap. I have a nice Nashbar set, but the inner trays being plastic, are starting to crack, they are 13 years old... I'm planning to build a bench in my basement, for bike stuff and my firearms maintenance. So a locking toolbox is planned. I'm not sure what resources are available to the folks Down Under, but here Harbor Freight is a good resource, the big box home improvement stores too.

My bike-specific tools live in a 4-drawer Craftsman tool chest.

Some of us aren't so lucky to have space to put tool boxes and bike working areas. High density living quarters, a condo, precludes me from having this luxury. That means two folding Feedback Sports work stands and a Park Tool Chest. It is good enough for now.Rolls like a suitcase

Two words: eBay or fleamarket. Unless you're willing to spend big bucks, you'll get more toolbox for the money (and a better one too), by buying a used one.
As for tools, buy ONLY the ones you need for your bike(s) and buy the very best you can afford. Unless they are specialty bike tools, buy Snap-On, Mac or other premium tools for wrenches, pliers, Allen and Torx wrenches, etc. You'll thank yourself in the long-run.
The blue Craftsman toolbox set I got used for $200 bucks. It's 20 years old and far better quality than the red Craftsman boxes I got on the left for about the same money.
The red boxes are my bike tools and the blue ones are for my car.

I got a half dozen Sterilite boxes from Target.
I have a stack of 6 of these shallow latching boxes
14 x 11 x 3.25
These are shallow enough that I can see all the items.
I labeled the lid edge with a sharpie (which can be removed with rubbing alcohol later.)
So each box has a specific type of tool, or parts that only fit one bike.
I have a few more larger boxes for bigger items.
Canvas rigger bag
I have a couple of these bags from Harbor Freight. All the outside and inside pockets are useful, and I can find my stuff easily.

It's a 1971 and it's my daily driver too. No foolin'. That's why I have my own tools (rofl). Actually truth be told, it's been a fine car.

Mine's a 73 but it is currently stored. They do give you on opportunity to pull out the wrenches (or should I say spanners).
