Its 2018, purchased a brand NEW 1985 Ochsner from bike store ;-)

Amazing never ridden, brand new old store stock. I originally glanced at this one a half year ago, was described as Campy Victory equipped, came from another closed bike store inventory. Now in this mid-winter with lousy cycling weather, its usually a good reason to take a closer look at those near forgotten or hidden away bikes. And thats exactly what I did and ended up taking this one home.

Once I noted this was not a Victory equipped bike but rather Triomphe, the price rolled even lower. Ridiculous, and irresistible. And where does one get a brand new handmade frameset from Switzerland for a little more than a song? A fully equipped new/old school Campagnolo machine?!

There were no pedals on it and when inquired if any old pedals might be had, sure enough the originals (new of course) were pulled from the back. Bonus was another pair of new Suntour Cyclone pedals.

The Triomphe and Victory are close but the Victory has the well improved B-type adjustment whereas the Triomphe is fixed and likely the prior Nuovo Record operation. Both the Triomphe and Victory are block styling yet they've grown appealing weird retro cool. The last of the friction era. Cranks between the two are close styled, the Victory does not have the flared spider.

The wheel choice is not to my liking and so I have other plans for it -going period lightweight and 'zoomy' tubular. It will also get a complete bearing cleanse and lube, cable outer clean, frame wax. When done will do the full show and tell. For now, quick pics and specs.
Prost!

Othon Ochsner passed away in 2017 at 83. His car collection was always eclectic and interesting. Had wide business interest and of course the gratuitous Meister Ochsner had a fondness for all things Swiss.

New Campy Victory / Triomphe pedals including a bonus pair of new Suntour Cyclone. Pretty sure the Cyclones were part of some other new take-offs. This shop also has some brand -NEW- 1990's era atb's by Trek, Bontrager, Cannondale, Klein, Miyata. Owner seems fond of them and doubtful he's ready to part with. Really neat throwback to see brand new complete bikes.

Could only imagine what other 'brand new' old stock are sitting. Anyway's thanks all for the comp's. We're just temporary custodians and hope our little treasures get taken care of years from now.

I'm really tickled by this bike, not necessarily of the bike glory (if any) but more about the Meister Oschner. A fixture in the cycling scene and Campy man in much of the States. Looking at the bike makes me think of him.

more quick pics -
Built with a Specialized headset?! I'll leave it but odd its not Campy. Same goes for the Shimano 600 freewheel. Matrix Titan -USA rims - made in Wisconsin, close proximity to Oschner perhaps? Then there's the plain front and rear spokes. Thought Oschner was the DT Swiss spoke supplier.

Triomphe rear derailleur -note no 'B' adjuster, unlike the Victory

Best, Ben

I've ridden all of mine (and rarely say no to others who offer theirs...), but this particular bike kind of hit and makes me question. I look at most things, appreciate the object but its so weird to see this bike as new circa 1985.

I'm officially the first owner, outside of the two store's who had it and you've got to wonder how does this happen? I also want to keep the monetary question at bay. Brand new vintage Campy (regardless of level) is getting silly money and know it could be parted faaaar more than my buy. I couldn't do such a travesty. That I know for sure.

The only thing I don't care for are the rims, spokes and tires (tires, regardless are toast). I have an idea for the wheel build using these original hubs and actually would make this 'lowly' Campy equipped bike 'pop'.

I suppose no harm to ride and enjoy, the very reason it was made, life in motion.

This is the kinda stuff you dream about finding in the back of an old bike shop. Amazing find!

May be sacrilege but those cutouts would look real nice painted white eh?

thanks for sharing the story and the pics! Glad that the bike survived the years without getting rusty/moldy/nasty.

Seems like the first order of business is to get the old grease cleaned out and replaced with fresh stuff, put new rubber on it, maybe new brake pads, etc.
Then decide when/how/if to ride and use it??

(I definitely need to start looking for old shops with dusty basements that haven't been visited in a few decades. )

I've owned a couple of those frames that came to me built up in Frankenbike mode. They ride very nicely. I seem to recall hearing they were made with Columbus Aelle tubing, but that could be faulty memory ....

The blue Ochsner bikes usually have a Columbus Zeta sticker. A way better bike than implied by Zeta or Triomphe. Ride it and enjoy.

Othon H. Ochsner II died last year. Othon H. Ochsner Sr. passed in 1981. It would need a lot of bandwidth to honor Othon properly. But this. The old track racer kept riding the track even after he went blind. He knew where the corners were.

Are those straight gauge spokes or are they the nero finish Alpina oval spokes? The ovals were light and very good. Picture not clear enough to show such a small point.

Thanks for piping in, 63rickert. There's no decal denoting tubing yet vaguely recall info out there about being Zeta. I'm hopeful jjhabs will confirm this as well. He has a beautiful all chromed Ochsner.

Great reads on both Othon Ochsner Sr. and II. Senior was the 1919 Swiss Pursuit Champion.

Good eye on the spokes. I stand corrected on two things -they're laced 36 spoke, not 32 and indeed are a mild oval blade. Unable to ID the spoke head, though likely are Alpina. Had them years ago on another wheelset but recall they were a wider oval. These feel fairly weighty.
