I had always bought them “off the rack," so I was surprised to learn that you could order them in different stem lengths. Choose Mirror Size, Original or Compact. Then Choose Stem Length.

The other choice is the compact, or wider original size mirror. When I bought my most recent one, the shop only had the compact size. I was skeptical about it, but with the proper adjustment, as with the original size, it works fine.

Probably more stylish for those persuaded by fashion.
Well, as I mentioned, this is about 20 inches or so away... so not sure I'd want a 20 inch "unicorn horn" coming off my bike helmet.

Interesting to me, anyway, is that it took that distance for it to work for me. Looks like would work down to about 15 inches before I can't casually focus on it. Still a dang long "stem."

ha! great! I did the same with a small mirror & cardboard for the same reason, cuz one guy liked to sneak up on me to intentionally startle me. I called the device the "Troy Cam"

I also use the mirrycle on flat bar as some other people mentioned, and it's been the best out of the others that I've used. It's very stable and doesn't vibrate on paved roads so the image is clear. On bumpy surfaces it may vibrate a little, but much less than the other mirrors that I tried that were completely blurry with any bumps.

It has 3 axis of swivel, so you can easily adjust the position. You can tuck it away under the handle bar if your going through vegetation. You can also swivel it further out if you used bar end grips, like the ergon gp series. I used to not be able to use the bar end because the other mirrors got in the way, but the mirrycle solved this. Also if your parked bike falls to the side onto the ground, the mirror will simply swivel inward. I've broken other mirrors this way because they only had 2 axis of motion instead of the 3 that the mirrycle has.

Pfft! You're not the only one who can't get a mirror to work. I've encountered, guessing 100 cyclists with mirrors and maybe 3 know how to use them. Meaning the rest had no idea I was approaching even after shouting out and ringing a bell. My Gawd man, look in your mirror!

I have tried different mirrors over the years. Handlebar mounted mirrors vibrate a lot. I do like the Original Mirrcycle Mirror that mounts on the brake lever of non-aero brake levers. It's a solid mirror and easily seen into from most every angle. I put one on both brake levers so that I can see what's behind me on the right ans well as in turns.

I've use the Take-a-look mirror and I generally like it as long as it's mounted on either my eyeglasses or on my sunglasses. I did try mounting it on the side of the visor of my helmet per the Take-a-look instructions but found it vibrated too much for me. To get the Take-a-look mirror to work best for me did require me to bend t he "stalk" of the mirror a bit. I find the Take-a-look mirror to be useful. It does take some getting used to seeing things in sharp focus in the mirror and other things slightly out of focus elsewhere. However, since I just glance into the mirror most times using it I have no problem with that.

My favourite mirror is one that mounts onto my helmet. Sorry but i don't recall the brand name. It has a ball and socket piece that attaches to the helmet and also the mirror has a ball that snaps into the adjustable for length arm of the mirror mount. That mirror is fantastic. The only way it could be improved in my opinion is if the ball and the socket of the mirror attachment were a bit bigger.

I did NOT like any of the bar-end mirrors I tried on drop-bars. I found that most of the time my arm blocked my view of the mirror and also that I had to take my eyes off the road to look down at the mirror. I don't like doing that in heavy traffic which is why I far prefer the helmet mirror in the image above or as second choice a Take-a-look glasses mounted mirror. To me it's important to be able to see ahead as well as into the mirror at the same time.

Oh, Take-a-look mirrors can be had with different stalk lengths. Mine are the original short ones.

Cheers

For me, it turns out the stalk needs to be about 15 inches for my focal point.

The adhesive failed on that mirror within 3 weeks.

Yeah, I could have found a substitute attachment... but the focal point issue rendered it useless.

It serves a desk job these days, while I use a velcro on bar end mirror.

Bottom line... find what works for you.

I do NOT trust any adhesive on helmet mirror mounts. I use the adhesive part to position my mirror and once I know that the mount is where I need it I reinforce that mount/helmet interface with a zip-tie or two. Never had a helmet mirror mount come loose once it's reinforce with the zip-ties.

Cheers
