Shimano Ultegra 6700 question.

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Shimano Ultegra 6700 question.

Hey everyone,

Been a few years since I've been on here, but i've been cycling for about a year now with a Fuji Roubaix 1.0, and it's been great. I've got just about 1000 miles on it, and I was thinking about getting the Shimano Ultegra 6700 12-30 cassette. I'm not too savvy with the cassette, and mechanics of my bike. I just know just enough to get me by, and I take care of it pretty well. My question is, does anyone know if the 6700 is compatible with the components I have on my bike? I have the Shimano 105 11/28, CS-5700, 105 10-SPEED 11-12-13-14-15-17-19-21-24-28T. Thank you guys for the help!!

Wish I could make sense of that chart. Again, not to savvy components wise.

Drivetrains for 5700 and 6700 are compatible. Ok to mix/match. You will need a cassette tool and one chain whip to swap them out.

With the 12-30T it's possible you may be exceeding your rear derailleur tooth capacity if it's a SS short cage type, although a guy in this thread says it works with no problems:

You could try it, or just stick with 11-28 since you know that works. Are you trying to lower your gearing? - because another option would be to swap out to a compact crankset if you don't already have one.

It will work fine, you make have to turn in the B screw a bit on the rear derailleur to get clearance for the bigger gear.

search youtube for derailleur adjusment videos if you don't know what that means, it's simple
