Just another few commutes. From two days ago...
Woburn's municipal free-range organic turkey flock is doing well, it would seem.

Just the usual commute...another day living the dream. This pic was from a couple days ago, too. Still commuting in shorts, though the weather is starting to turn cold just in time for winter. Today's ride home had a few pleasant drizzles. My nice commute makes up for the fact I haven't been able to do many longer rides due to lack of light, air quality (going back a few weeks), and other weekend obligations.

zukahn1 Wow Alma Co 10,578 ft . I have stayed in Leadville Co a few time but I see you are 200 ft higher. It has snowed every time I have stayed or passed through Leadville Co.
Beautiful high country.

I got the shiny bike very dirty today.
We are having a very unusually warm weekend here in Northern Illinois. Sunny and in the high 40s! I actually got to ride in shorts and just a long sleeve jersey for once!
I had planned on a 30 mile loop that I had done earlier this summer, but ended up missing a turn and ended up on a very steep, very sloppy gravel road.
Ended up with 32 miles, and new plans to tear down, clean, and overhaul the old SLT over the next few days.

@abshipp Great looking 12.2! That beauty deserves to be sullied every once in a while. A red one passed through my possession a few years back when I had little time for another project so I passed it on. I wish that I had cleaned it up and kept it.

After taping up some tubulars on @Wildwood's Bottecchia we did about 14 miles to test them out. I finally got a chance to test out my new components/position on the gold Mexico.
I'd never glued or taped up a set of tubulars until today; it was easy! Maybe too easy, as I'm thinking about trying them again after all these years, but then again do I really want to go down that rabbit hole? Decisions, decisions...

My first real ride this winter. Of course, I went to Hastings. Again. Sorry.
Can't resist the Chiliquiles at El Mexican.
First riding pics with my new camera. Also the first ride with the Brooks Cambium saddle. Very comfy indeed.
If the weather is this good next weekend, I plan to ride farther afield. Maybe Cannon River Valley?

Took the Mercian for a VERY short ride today (sans helmet!) It still works ok, but I am really out of shape! Sorry for the crappy cell phone pic.

I went for a rainy ride with my cyclocross teammates in Portland today. Everyone else was on modern bikes. I rode my 1972 Motobecane Grand Record. I'd love to tell the typical story of how impressed they all were that I could hang with them on a vintage bike, but the truth is I could only keep up because they were going at a casual pace. Not that the bike wasn't up to it -- I'm just slow. I did get a couple of compliments on the fenders.

It still has its original brake housing which is.....flexible....to say the least. So the brakes are more of a suggestion than anything, which made steep descents on sloppy gravel pretty exciting!
I'm planning on putting new compressionless housing this winter, which should make a nice improvement.

Did my local ride on my 97 Cannondale but cut over to the main road NC rt 24 as there is a new bike shop here in small Locust NC. This shop opened less than two months ago but has a lot of bike in all types. Nice guy named Charles who is owner and mechanic and knowledgeable on all types of bikes. Next door is breakfast joint that I sometimes go to. A lot of divided four lane rt 24-27 from Locust to Charlotte has a bike lane on the side. Traffic is fast and I do not see riders on it anymore. Ten years ago I use to ride it once a week. It is flat and makes a quick ride.

Getting reacquainted with dirt roads. This one, on the Palos Verdes Penninsula, is called Burma Road -- a 7% 1 3/4 mile climb. Did this ride yesterday and again today.
I worked a bit harder today and was only 4 seconds off a PR from last spring. So looking forward to EroicaCA.

Believe it or not, I was FINALLY able to get my beloved '85 Fuji out and go for a quick ride. Been so busy lately on weekends, it's not funny....
Just 2 weeks ago, the Richmond, VA area got buried in a foot of snow and it was around 24°F for days on end. Everything shut down. I was off my school bus as they closed schools for almost the entire week!
Anyway, here we are on the 21st of December, and Mother Nature went all crazy again, and it's now an incredible 66°F outside, but windy. I jumped at the chance to go for a quick ride while I could, since I'm on Christmas break from my bus, and don't go back until after New Years. 6.25 miles in 25:12 for a quick spin through the neighborhood side streets... Nothing special...
Here's the back entrance of the Collegiate School here in town.
Here's a view looking back up the side road called Sierra, and the wet road and leaves, pine needles, twigs, etc... all over the place. I was careful not to make high speed turns!

Happy Winter Solstice everyone!
I took a half-day off of work today, and our company is shut down all of next week and through January 2. After some last-minute Christmas shopping I got out on the bike for an hour.
The local rail-to-trail path has had a section barricaded off and marked "Path Closed" for the last month or so. I typically don't ride on the path so I never had a good chance to investigate. Today I decided to check things out, and...yeah...it definitely isn't passable.
Looks like the heavy rain we got a few months ago took out one of the bridges:

Lots of errands downtown. The alleyways were the channels of choice while the streets were buzzing with traffic...

Into downtown Philly and then back up a packed gravel trail in Wissahick park. I forgot about how much rain there was yesterday. Going to take some work before I'm able to bring this one into my apartment.

It was 52 and brightening up considerably at the start of my ride. Less than halfway through it started raining and the temp started to drop; 45 by the time I made it home somewhat damp. Still, it was nice to be out:

One has to make the most of mild winter weather so I rode 24 miles before and 11 after work with heavily laden panniers.
