Enjoy Stockholm. It's been twenty years since I've visited.
I am going to teach English. I also speak Swedish, albeit not with the greatest vocabulary. There are many schools that teach bilingually and I have over five years teaching experience, so I feel I'm going to be rather highly valued as a native English speaker.

It is a beautiful place. I feel if I try to describe why it's beautiful to people, they won't get it. I think the best way to describe it is "simply beautiful" because it's beauty has to do with a larger feeling, a wide-ranging and overall charm that has little to do with any specific place. I'm not sure I'm capturing it even now. Oh well. I like that. That's what matters.

Oh, it's realistic allright - if you're going to live in California or among the Texicans. Or in Sicily.

Seriously though: if I had 100 EUR for every time I hear this story: "I tried cycling during the winter, but then I badly fell after slipping on black ice <insert random list of traumatic physical conequences>, so I don't ride in winter anymore, it's way too dangerous." to which I'd ask "Didn't you have studded tires?", and the answer is always "no" - DUUHHH!!! - I'd be rich and admired by young flighty ladies (you thought I forgot how I started this sentence, huh?).

Correct.

Damn good to know. I'll be sure to bring my big tire irons. : )

Do you have the link for those Finnish tires? Can you buy them readily in Sweden?

Well, this excellent bike shop in Helsinki has them on discount:
https://www.kauppaveljet.fi/valm/15/

but it looks like they're running out of 'em. ****, they sold out the Freddys revenz (best damn studded tires for extreme conditions, ever - but only available for 26")! Should have bought them earlier (they had them for EUR 56, which is nothing - normally they go for 130-140 EUR apiece).

I found them for a good price, online, here:
https://www.bike-components.de/catalo...fbd82d5251a02b
Not as good a deal as in kauppaveljet, but still ok.

Freddyz are unpractical - WXC300 is the 26" tire you want for winter - lighter and roll more like a normal tyre. I should be able to get them on a few days notice. I work here:

I like these: Nokian A10 (28")

Do you know if they mean 29" even if it says 28"?

28" and 29" are just dimensions of the tire, they both fit on the same rim size. 700c.

kauppaveljet still have a few WXC300, but I prefere freddys. I don't want them for normal winter conditions, but when I want to get crazy, as in FTW crazy on icy rocks. But if I wanted the WXC300, I guess the discount price in kauppaveljet beats anything you guys could offer - sorry, nothing personal.

EDIT: I checked the prices. Both the WXC300 and the W106 are quite a bit cheaper in kauppaveljet. Sorry. Again, nothing personal, but 24 vs 34 and 58 vs 69 EUR.

As someone said already: 29" is actually thick 28". Here in Finland they say 28" when they mean 700C (or ISO 622). If you go to almost all shops in Helsinki and mention 29" tires, they will look at you as if you were barking mad - and some will even tell you so. Most people just haven't heard of 29ers.

And those A10 are 700x40C, which is about 28" x 1.5", which is not yet in the 29er category. You got to get to at least 28" x 2" to be 29" confused yet?

You're in the US now (I'm guessing)? Why buy a bike here and ship it to Sweden? Seems to me you would be better off waiting and buying a bike there. Just wondering.

Not really. Everything costs more there. Shipping the bike over with me is only an additional $75 or so. Plus, this way it'll be ready as I want it right away once I land over there.

Once I build up my 29er, I suspect the other bikes will see very little action.
I'm i the market for the frame, it's just that I'm cheap.

Those are really nice pics. Did snow thaw that much there, already? In Helsinki and around you can still find patches of snow on the roads/streets here and there, and in the in the nature it's pretty much all snowy still. Slushy snow - the worst kind, IMHO.

Wow, so beautiful!

Everybody keeps asking me, Isn't it f-ing cold there?... And yet it looks even better than Chicago does at the moment. We have yet to turn green. Although today was beautiful. Got to take out my Cinelli road bike. How much of the year do people get to ride road bikes in Stockholm?

Are those paths? If so, are they all rocky?

Not all trails around Stockholm is that rocky / rooty / technical, there's some smooth trails out there as well.

Some pics from the last couple of years:

Jätte kul!

I can't wait!

I'm not much of an off-roader, but I did like riding some of the river trails near where I grew up. Those don't look too bad. I can't wait to find out!
