Finally down to the final piece; the drive side bottom bracket cup. This is from the mystery frame with aftermarket Peugeot decals, but Bocama lugs, Georg Fischer bottom bracket shell, wraparound seatstays, campy dropouts and imperial sized tubing. I know it's French or Swiss, so my options are:
1. get a long cheater bar and try to remove it clockwise
2. If that doesn't work, try even hard to remove it counterclockwise

Not a fun guessing game.

But I was amused by this typo on the drive side cup "Stronglihgt."



I think this is the size stamped into the bottom bracket? Doesn't seem like a lug angle. I didn't see this before, so it might be the key to identifying it (as well as determining bottom bracket thread section).

Well this morning I finally got down to doing the deep clean of the Merckx Corsa 01 that I got caught out in the rain on. There was a fine grit on everything when I got home. So pulled off most the of the drivetrain to clean it all up and then cleaned up the frame, wheels, etc. If it's not windy by the time the temps getting into the 50's I'll take this one out for a fast ride. Or should I say it's going out regardless...

A lot of fettling yesterday and today. Swapped a Tektro 559 for a 539 on the front of Mrs. ascherer’s Motobecane, finished polishing the scratches off an older set of Cinelli Giro bars for the Paramount, and installed VO Porteur bars on the guest Peugeot, which I now declare complete. It’s a goofy mix of bin parts, Box o’ Crap parts, and a few new bits.

To me this was a "newer " bike but it is 33 years old and my guess was that it would be better as a flat bar city bomber than a drop bar downtube shifting "racer". I did a few mods, including replacing the half step pluss bail out crank with 53-42-30 tripple, Titan aero spoke wheels, an upturned stem, Richey flat bars, and Shimano "push button" rear 7 speed shifter. Added yellow shift cables and 28 mm tan wall tires and here is the result. I even got a young guest at the Bike Exchange to pose with it. The Rando guy in the other photo is a notorius pirate that hangs around sometimes.

Earlier this year, I built up a Sun/Campy wheelset, and I did it again the other day but with a 6400 front and 6207 rear.





Wasn't quite sure which side of the rear hub to lace at 12:00 when looking down the valve, the model number/date code or Shimano. Went with the latter.

Just like the last pair of Sun rims I ordered, one of these had a raised seam. I paired it with the rear hub, hoping it wouldn't be an issue when braking. I finally just filed both rims with my rotary tool as you can sorta see here:



Even with the seam issue, they're a great value, ride great, and very easy to build up.

Went with Fizik tape for the bars of this Falcon and 9mm of white electrical tape to finish.



This is a pretty small frame compared to what I've been riding all summer, so I bought a long (for me) 105mm Cinelli stem on eBay and raised it all the way to the max.

A shout-out for the Avocet Racing saddle I got from one of you. This thing is pluussshh.



I took some acetone to the big label on the nose of drive-side, but left the nds one (for now).

This is the first time I've tried to use a 1990 Record rear derailleur with a down tube friction setup. I wasn't all that impressed with the bike's shifting in the stand, but out on the road today, it felt fairly quick and flawless. The shifters are '80s Suntour 3200 type.



Looks like I need to cut a few threads off the skewer. 😬

I don't remember why anymore, but the stem-bars from the two Treks got swapped at some point in the past. I recently swapped them back, so the 414 again has its complete gold anodized component group.

This is a bit of a tease... My new used just delivered 1995 Reynolds 753 OS lugged Land Shark grail bike with a very plain blue paint job with just a touch of pearl.

Tearing into this old Carabela to harvest parts so I can recoup my $15. Suntour bar-ends, SR crank, Gran Compe stem, Windsor handlebars, Windsor pedals, Shimano hubs and Suntour V-GT derailleurs. I may save the fork too.

The last time I rode my PX-10 the steering was odd. It felt like I really had to muscle the bars around. I had a little spare time today so I opened up the headset and found that the bearing cages were warped, for want of a better word. They looked like they were rotationally twisted and that was undoubtedly causing resistance. I cleaned everything up, and there didn’t seem to be any other damage so four dozen loosies later it’s back together and feels great.

Just completed my 1993 Trek Antelope 830 resto-mod today. This bike was in poor shape when I got it. The goal was to build a simple, cafe cruiser type bike. The original drivetrain was abandoned for a slightly upgraded 1x9. My favorite feature is the Bontrager Satellite Trekking Handlebars. At 600mm wide, a 35 degree sweep and 50mm rise, they are super comfortable Overall, I'm very happy with the build and look forward to many miles ahead.

As rusted and crusted as that Carabela was, I expected I would have to have trouble. Once I got the Suntour parts off, I though what the heck, I'll just strip it down as much as I could. Everything, including the seat post and stem came out like it was put together yesterday. Now I have a bare frame on my garage floor. Right now the only thing keeping me from building it back up is I don't want to paint it.

Dirt Road Blues 

Right side torn down prior to cleaning, lube, and reassembly. Not too tedious of a task. Definitely worth the effort to gain smoother sliding, and a more positive clicking action.
