Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

today was real light... quick 15 or so miles to downtown area, three really good climbs in there to get the blood flowing..

had to stop at the bank and make a deposit, then went back home... just spinning the legs out a bit before I do 60 miles tomorrow...

Thanks for the info! Interesting that you had knee issues with one pedal system that claims to be a remedy for that issue.

Rode a whole 4.4 miles around the hood today, still relearning the bike after a long hiatus, and fighting off a virus, I was going to ride past the spot on Sens road where the Unicycle man met his end last month. But I would have bonked for sure, I was shaking pretty good when cleaning up the bike and relubing the chain, plus I had a LOT of tingling in my whole chamios area.
I have decided that I need to leave at least my left ear unplugged, got surprised by 2 different cars, but have pandora and Map my ride may have to hold off on pandora, but I find map my ride motivational.
Hopefully I can get some SOLID sleep, and keep bumping up the mileage.
I did see upon cleanup that my tire pump decided it found a new home (rubber broke).

I headed out for a nice 56mi on the West Orange Trail which is a mup just northwest of Orlando. Nice weather today, partly cloudy with just a slight headwind on the way home. I noticed that they're extending the trail past Lake Minneola, not sure how far but I rode the new pavement until the bridge which extends it about a mile. Hopefully It will go over the bridge and continue around the lake.

I rode Speedplay Zero for many years without real problems, only the last year or so did the knees begin to bother me. Is that necessarily attributable to the pedals? Can't say for sure. Everyone can have different mechanics while riding. If the Speedplays aren't giving you problems, I don't know that I would change unless you just want to try something different. No big deal.

Ouch. Is it not a bit early for that? How many more months of that do you have left?

It is waaaaay too early for this kind of weather, but all the skiers are happy so there's that.
Last winter it snowed in every month from October to May, although there were a few nice spells in between it was a harsh one. I'm hoping this winter will not be so bad, but thinking of moving somewhere warmer.

Holy Crap!!! I heard you guys were getting a winter blast earlier this year but that's crazy! I'd have to get a fat tire bike to play in the snow!

Fat Tyre Bike eh? Many a rider would prefer the name "Fatbike" as that is the name given them by media and manufacturers these days...

As for me, I rode 25mi around Las Sendas and just missed the sunrise while pulling into my driveway, incidentally the same ride I made last night after the sun went down. Long working hours make for crappy riding hours.

Rode my brand new Cannondale CAAD 10 5 105 to and from work. 15 miles round trip. It's amazing. I had a nice Peugeot PX-10 back in the late seventies and a bunch of heavy fat tire bikes since, so this gazelle is blowing my old and wrinkly mind!

Been kind of in a funk lately in regards to work (too much "busy work" and not enough "meaningful work"). Went for a 36 milers - the first 18 was my standard one hour loop the second 18 was 90% roads I've never ridden before. Really needed that. Forgot that part of the fun of riding is exploring new roads.

Today I rode 18.4 miles to the San Jose airport and back, and bought a new 9 speed chain on the way back. It was a great ride.

also stopped by my LBS on the way back down to scope some prices on the new brake pads that I've been putting off gettin' for like a week now...

Today I rode 43.6 miles. My longest ride. I left my house with my neighbor and rode 15 miles to Sequatchie Mountain Road where we rode up and up and up. The mountain is Rated 1.16 cat 1/2; 1049 feet in 1.8 miles. This is only the 5th mountain I have ridden up and the first on my road bike (others were using my mountain bike with hybrid tires). It is the hardest mountain in our valley and according to my neighbor the second hardest rated mountain in the Chattanooga area! We descended by way of highway 41 where I have achieved my highest speed of 39.5mph before I thought I should slow down. Then back home.

I am stoked and exhausted! I have no desire to try out the hardest mountain here (Robert's Mill Road).

And I have been riding only since mid-April and on my road bike only for 2 weeks.

Yep. I am bragging!

toodled around san diego for 40 miles. it was either 87 degrees or 95 degrees, depending on your sources. i'll say it was about 92. did a few new roads. semi-near the coast
but never on the coast nor did any really lengthy climbs. a few short, sharp shocks tho. got a few big raindrops from a wimpy wannabe thunderstorm at the conclusion
of the ride. what i would have given for a torrential downpour today.

That's good to know. A fun ride from the Killarney Station trailhead.
