what is it with BF people that they get into some kind of religious trance when caad9 (or any caad) or sram is up for discussion?
campy i get...it is exclusive and old people like italian stuff for their mid life crisis.
But the caad and sram is like some kind of sick doomsday cult.

shimano used to be the only realistic option. Sram works fine and is still new, not as common and lighter per dollar or something. you've got me on the caad9 thing. I'm sure they're nice frames............but isn't it all about the caad10 now?

I was inspired.
But funny thing...cleaning out the bike shed today...I have no fancy techno grouppos on my bike (mostly vintage).
I looked at some of the new road bikes for sale. No way am I paying that much for a frame & grouppo! $10,000??!! What's the big deal if you are not a serious racer?

bingo. super stiff, reasonably light bike that is race worthy and you don't have to be afraid of wadding it up. Add to that the traditional geometry (relatively) and it's hard to get more bang for the buck.

Well you can get SRAM RED for about $1400 and it's lighter than both Super Record (~$2000) and Dura-Ace (~$2000)

I just put a deposit on a caad9 4 (rival) for $1450. It's a fun bike, not overly pricey and I liked the rival better than 105. Buy what you like. Ride what you buy.
