I thought that was the way easiest way to take it off. IIRC the last time I took one off (about 6 yrs ago) I went at it with a utility knife and it was hard to cut though.

Hehehe, yeah I hear you. I look at the pic and I really don't want to let it go. However it was stripped of it's gruppo ~1 year ago when I got my SLX01 and it's just been sitting, which also bothers me a little bit as I think sombody sholud be riding it. IMO it's the raciest looking frame BMC has ever made, the thing just screams GO. I've been thinking of selling the SLX too to fund a RM01 in the gulf colors, bet I'd catch he11 for that though.

Hey guys. I'm new to cycling. I found an early 80's Maruishi Road Ace 5 on craigslist for 50 bucks and had my way with it. Don't really have much money so I did what I could. Got a new Vader saddle. Not bad for the price. Converted stock 27" wheels to 700c AeroMax wheels. Not bad either. Lighter than the stock ones that had to be replaced anyway. New wraps and break lever hoods as well as break cable housing. A lot of experienced bikers tell me to toss it and get a modern one rather than putting money into it but I like the look of the older ones and for a steel bike its only 15 pounds. The friction shifters allowed me to upgrade this from a 12 to 14 speed. Everything else is Shimano along with the new cassette. Still have work to be done but here it is. Please comment. Any input to help me make it better would be great and anyone with something bad to say about it is welcome as long as its from an open minded perspective therefore helping me to make it better as well. Thanks.

A month after some TLC.
By the way, I estimated on the weight. I know its steel because a magnet sticks to it. I have no way to weigh it so i lifted a 20 pound dumbbell and then the bike. The bike is quite lighter than the dumbbell.

To weigh it, get a bathroom scale, weigh yourself, then again holding the bike. The difference is the bike's weight. It looks good. I bet its great to ride.

My flat land speed bike. A 2010 Kestrel RT800-SL, full Dura-Ace.
My hill climbing and century bike. A 2010 Trek Madone 4.5, full Ultegra.
My "training" bike. A 2010 Ridley Cheetah, all Rival except for a Force crank.
My old steed, had since 1972, a Mondia Super, all Nuovo Record except for a Sugino crank and a SR seat post.
No rear tire because I'm trying to decide what to do with the thing...restore it or dump it. Haven't ridden since getting the carbon bikes.
The newest bike. A 2009 Pinarello FP6. Trying to decide what groupo to built. Either the D/A from the Kestrel or Ultegra Di2, (when available).
