Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? I almost built up a 26" rear wheel for my last build, but it was cheaper to buy a 700c that my LBS built and sold as a complete wheel.

i rode a 26" skinny mtb wheel with a 1.25" tire while i experimented with brakeless... it was sketch. im not back to 700c and a semi functional brake. it just dropped the bb height and got twitchy during skids.

I have 26 x 1 3/8 on mine.
Perfect for urban sidewalks.
Very uncool wheel size, which makes it all the more appealing.

I built up a Huffy as a fixed with 26 x 1 3/8 for my wife, it ended up being too big, but the tires were nice and smooth.

What tires would be good for a 26", road/urban riding?

I have found 26 x 1/38 to be the best for less than perfect pavement, which is what one always seems to find in a big city. This size is thick enough to absorb the bumps, yet narrow enough to not slow one down. Both Schwalbe and Panaracer make some very good tires in this size.

My opinion is based upon riding the crappy pavement of a huge metropolis for the last twenty five years.

1. Is a 26" wheel/tire the same size as a 650c?
2. Will a 650c tire fit a 26" rim?
3. Does anyone sell colored 26" tires?
