Personal 1,000 mile challenge
The 100+ heat is over but I need a goal to stay motivated. So I challenged myself to ride 1,000 miles as quick as I can. But being realistic and sane. I started today with 30 miles so 970 to go. See what happens at the 1,000 mile mark.

I did 200 miles last week, so you've got just over a month to complete this.

I turned my 1,000th mile of 2019 during my 24th ride of the year, on February 6th.
I turned my 1,000th mile of 2018 during my 26th ride of the year, on February 7th.
I turned my 1,000th mile of 2017 during my 27th ride of the year, on February 3rd.
....so I'll give you until... November 1st. That's 45 days. Piece of cake.

Took me from April until August to reach the 1000 mile mark. But I did it.

All of the above suggestions sound reasonable and will keep me motivated

My 1,000th mile this year was April 23, which was my 39th ride (many of mine are short commute rides, punctuated by 50 to 130 milers on the weekends). Currently at 2268 miles for 2019.

Have you ever considered riding supported tours? It’s a terrific way to get some miles in a hurry, and they are a blast. I rode Cycle Oregon last week and have Cycle NC week after next. Those help with feeling the need to get training in. There are more and more gravel rides around as well.

Not many nearby but I plan on riding trails like The Katy. I’m thinking of cruising to Tucson In November to ride their many miles of paved trails. I think the 1,000 mile goal will help motivation. The last few years I averaged about 6,000 miles a year. This time last year I was out with a foot operation so I’m making it up this year. Unfortunately I need a hand operation soon and might have that done in December. Dupuytrens contracture really doesn’t help athletic endeavors. Trying to stay motivated and ride as many miles before I’m out again. A supported tour sounds great since I don’t have a touring bike or equipment.

I have a case of that with my little finger on one hand. So far mine is manageable so it hasn’t affected cycling nor golf. It’s mostly noticeable when I wash my hands......Good luck with yours!

If you are going to Tucson in November you might want to look into the El Tour de Tucson. Usually the week before Thanksgiving. Never ridden it but I've heard it is a great ride. They get like 8,000 riders which I cannot imagine.
Anyway, you could get a 100 miler there.

Don't really track miles unless I am out on tour. Knocked off about 310 between 9/7 and 9/13 by doing the GAP up and back. Don't know if I will get to 1,000 from there before the end of the year. Hoping to do at least two more long weekend trips before the weather turns, but they are only good for about 150 miles each.

101 degrees today! So no ride today I will go no benefit. My legs are tired anyways from two consecutive days of riding and I usually ride a 2 days on one day off pattern anyways. Summer doesn’t want to let go this year! Usually we are low 90s by now and that is tolerable. I guess I’ll pop open a cold beer and keep watering the grass and feed the cows that are smart enough to be hanging out in the shade Tomorrow’s forecast is a cool 94 so I will get in a good ride. 940 miles to go.

Great event! I rode it several years ago. Amazing number of riders! I think I left a bike “in line” at 4am to reserve a place in the 5+ hour cluster.

I'm at 805 and only started on July 9th. I should get 1,000 before the snow flies here in Minnesota.

I'd say 500 miles per month is very doable for most regular riders.

I have a slightly different take for my motivation due to a self imposed requirement of --- Kit-Up = Ride Age(+). Retired riding in SW FL means no climbing just temp/humidity/wind to deal with.

I normally climb about 300,000 feet per year but I have friends who do more than double that.

After the weekend, I'm now at 860 miles with a goal of 1,000 before the snow flies. Should be a piece of cake!
