Need help buying a Trek Hybrid bike from a Trek dealer California - I am in NY !!!

The Trek dealer won't ship me the bike as I am on the east coast and the dealer is in CA.
I have looked everywhere for this bike and he is the only one that has it...Anybody has any suggestions on how I can buy it? I really want this bike badly.
I am willing to pay somebody to help me with this process if needed be. I can be reached at xxx-xxx-xxxx

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Samy

DON'T do it. I just went through a similar situation with dealer in Florida. They claimed to have a certain bike in stock that nobody else had. Ends up they never had the bike and never ordered the bike. At this point they ripped off my credit card company for $749.

I makes very little sense that only one dealer would have the bike. I should have realized that. Buyer beware.

Besides most bike companies have a STRICT no ship policy. If a dealer is willing to ship a bike they are probably violating a policy.

I suggest you do what I ended up doing. Find a different bike and buy it locally. I am glad I did.

The lady at the store claims that they have it in stock...I can ask for photos and the person will see it before i spend a dime on it.
My issue is around how can I facilitate the trade knowing that i am in NY and the bike is in CA?

I exchanged emails for two weeks with the bike shop owner. She swore over and over they had the bike in stock and it was ready to ship. Think about it...It makes ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE that only one dealer would have the bike in stock. I should have known that.

Personally I think you are making a HUGE mistake. Buy a different bike locally.

Samy,
If this is a 2015 bike, why can't a local bike shop order it for you? Many times, they will order a bike w/out making the customer obligated to buy it. My LBS did it for me, albeit a $500 bike. What model and year bike are you looking at out of curiosity?

This model was discontinued recently by Trek.
It's the T2015 Trek 8.6 DS in a specific color that none of the dealer carry and Trek doesn't produce anymore

What colour is the bike? And what else makes it unique?

How about seeing if you can have your local Trek shop contact their Factory/Distributor Rep? Those reps sometimes know of things hanging around in the pipeline that won't show up on any shops site.

Unless you know someone who can go purchase the bike for you and ship it to you, it seems risky. Many of the larger retailers can only sell bikes in the store. Caveat Emptor.

I did some reading and I found evidence that Trek DOES HAVE A NO SHIPPING policy but it occured to me that it may apply to only current model year bikes. There must be loopholes in Trek's policy because I found quite a few bike shops offering to ship Trek bikes.

I have another thought. Let's just say you are able to successfully buy this bike and have it shipped to you. When you end up back at your local bike shop asking for help, are you ready to pay? What if it is a grey area between warranty and a "service that is included with the purchase of the bike". If I owned an LBS and you walked in with a bike that you bought from a shop 2500 miles away, I would charge you every single dime I could for the services I provided.

The 2015 8.6 that you can't find is the chrome one, correct? Have you seen this in person? It doesn't look nearly as good in person as it does in the picture on the Trek website. The newer black one that is being sold looks much nicer when you see it in person IMHO.

Eddys Bike Shop in NE Ohio has plenty of the chrome DS 8.6 in stock as of a week ago. I bought the Dnister black model, but they had several chrome models on the rack. I even rode the chrome before driving to a different location to pick up the black one the same day rather than waiting a day for the store-to-store transfer. Ohio is lots closer than Cali if you wanted to drive to pick it up.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I don't work for Eddy's, I'm just a happy customer.

Personally, I think this thread is getting too much attention considering how little info the OP has provided...

Guys,

Thank you so much for all the feedback. I will follow your recommendation and skip buying it from CA. I am going to go see the new Trek 8.6 DS 2016 model color and compare it to the Specialized CrossTrail Expert Disc and pull the trigger on one of them right here from NYC.

Again thank you.

While it's of course best to see it in person, I posted some sunlit pics of my 2016 8.6 DS on here two or three weeks ago. It likely was in the DS owners thread. It looks much better than I'd feared when the shop had ordered it. (they have a 30-day money-back policy so I had an out if I hated it)

If you're looking for a 19 in. model, there's one listed on the Bike Line website in Bethlehem, PA location. Probably less than an hour's drive from anywhere in northern NJ
