Time Frame, Dura Ace Brakes, nut that doesn't fit...

Got a Time Zxrs frame / fork from EBAY, and a new DuraAce 9100 group set. The issue I'm having is that the flange on the nuts for the brakes are slightly too big for the holes on the frame. Near as I can measure, the flange that came with the brakes is 10mm, and I might need 9mm or maybe 8mm. I can't find any information about what might be required or where I might get them. Anyone have advice? So close yet so far to being able to ride it!

Are you talking about the nut's outer flange or the shaft of the nut? The flange is generally larger then 10mm and the shaft is about 10mm. It's not uncommon for the frame's hole to be slightly undersized due to build up of paint/clear coat. I've gently filed/reamed the hole larger and only take off the finish layer. Andy

I recently purchased BR-R7000 the 105 version dual pivot brakes. There are 6 caliper retaining nuts included in 5 different lengths.
They are all the same diameters, just different shaft lengths.
Nut Head = 10.00mm diameter (3.05mm long)
Nut Shaft = 7.85mm diameter (various lengths)

It sounds like the head is expected to remain outside the frame hole on your setup.

The flange is what is too large, on both the front and rear. The shaft of the nut is fine. Looking at the marks, I'm suspecting that the nuts for this are very long. Maybe what I'm looking for isn't so much a smaller flange as a longer shaft on the nut.

Hate to say, but I'm not sure which brake is intended for front vs. rear. They look identical except one has a pretty short bolt and the other has a longer bolt.

Yes I believe you to be right on that. I bought this groupset new, but it only came with one size shaft length, which is really short...about 10mm.

I do happen to have an older set of Dura Ace brakes, and one of them has an 18mm shaft length, and it is still not long enough for the front fork even if I use the break with the long bolt.

Know where I could find nuts long enough?

Long bolt goes through the fork
Short bolt... well, that goes on the other end!

You can tell by looking at the pads.
Get them the wrong way around and the first time you hit the brakes you launch the pads and stuff the holder into the rims. Generally frowned upon.

OH, and all self respecting bikies need Titanium Nuts...... pun intended!
Shimano 35mm=7.4g
TI 35mm=4.25g

Thats only $70.60/Ounce saving.... a Bargain

IIRC I ran into a similar issue years ago with a Look CF fork and a Campagnolo brake. I rolled up some sandpaper to make essentially a circular file and gently widened the hole in the fork

I stand corrected. Thanks. Andy
