What is your average speed?

I know most of us commute on our hyrbids which can mess things up.. but what is your average? With little to no red lights and stop signs, I can average around 23-30 km/hr for a good distance.

My best hour in 2015 on my stock 2010/11 Giant Roam 2 with 700x32 Kenda Kwest tires is 16.47 mph (26.5 kph) for 1 hour. By comparison my best hour in 2015 on my road bike with 700x23 tires is 17.5 mph (28.16 kmh). Both were done around the same loop, which is very flat.

I'm not in my best shape right now, but it's still not too shabby for an overweight 55 year old with a bad back that hasn't been riding for several years until this spring.

much to my frustration I get 26-27km/hr over ~60km with average elevation gain of ~300m (basically flat, 3 traffic lights, and normal summer breeze, if it doesn't get me in one direction it gets me in the other)

I'm 60 years old and weigh 225. I ride a Giant Escape 1. My speed depends on the terrain, but on a flat without wind, I will be in the 17 mph range. Rode 40 miles on a nice relatively flat road and averaged about that speed.

I like to trail ride and watch the scenery, so I'm typically between 10 and 15 mph on nice sections. Some single track trails sections I ride are a challenge at 3mph.

My best hour was 21mph on a flat straight empty paved rail trail, but I don't do that often as its tough on this 60 year old body .

between 12-14 mph averaged over 1-2 hours on a relatively flat off road trail that is a mixture of packed dirt, packed gravel, paved, and loose dirt with bumps

Umm... only 11-12 mph. I could do 15-16 mph on relatively flat terrain for an extended time if I WANTED to, but most of the time I just want to coast along and look at the scenery. Not really in it for the workout, it's just recreation. I've only *pedaled* 19-20mph a few times, and for very short distance. Hard exercise just isn't fun for me. And yep, I'm 8 mph up hills, and I avoid them if I can.

When I started riding in 1995, I was in my mid 20's, weighed 235lbs and was in the best shape of my life and my average speed was always 9-11 mph. Now, I'm 47, weigh 400 lbs and my average speed is still 9-11 mph!

Some of this is probably my riding style with constant slowing down and accelerating. I literally never get on a straight road and just ride at a constant speed. The closest I've gotten to that was a 10 mile multi-use path, when I had some pretty decent (ie, light and high quality) tires on the bike and I averaged 13mph for that 10 miles.

I average between 10 and 14mph.

If I'm riding with my 12 year-old daughter, our speed tends to hover around the low end of that scale. Riding solo, or only accompanied by my 16 year-old son, we usually trend towards the upper end of that range.
