My vintage bike of EXTREME sentimental value was stolen a couple of days ago, while locked to my own front porch rail (welcome to new york city I guess, I just moved here)... If anyone sees it pop up on craigslist I would be so happy to pay to have it back and extra happy to track the person who stole it. It's an aqua/teal colored Standard Bicycle Company road bike with drop handlebars, double break levers, the gear changer is in the middle of the handlebars, and had a black leather seat with a diamond pattern.

I have looked through hundreds of craigslist ads, and glared at every bicyclist riding by (partly with hatred to see if they are riding my bike and partly with envy now that I am bikeless) and have yet to see one Standard Bicycle Company bike, so I don't know that that brand is necessarily "rare" insofar as valuable but it at least seems distinctive.

I agree, but when the "as new" price is listed, it means the seller wants a significant fraction of that returned. Even at half that, it's too rich for my blood, but I don't know enough about Davidson's other than they are really nice handmade bikes.

You need a picture and a serial number at a minimum for this to be helpful. I double U-lock any bike I use in the city: one through the back triangle and one through the front. Cables and chains can be cut. You will want to roam through all the flea markets you can in the coming weekend.

There's a woman on the iBob list who is dedicated to recovering stolen bikes. Her name escapes me. Find her, and she'll give you tips on recovering a bike.

Yeah, I've done a few deals with him. He's a nice guy and does know his Italian bikes. He is Italian, and very stubborn on his prices and not in a hurry to sell. He can have a bike listed for years and not drop a dime in price.
