The der is obviously compatible. The previous owner bought the frameset/group new in '97 and rode it for 20yrs. There is no damage to the frame, hanger, etc at all. When the lever cooperates and does the click stuff properly the thing shifts fine.
I'll be getting some new housing a cable today.
