The Graftek brings back some memories. I had a buddy who owned one. He thought it was a bit whippy so he then bought one of the first Kleins. He had a sort of Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde personality when it came to choosing bikes.

It is great to see bikes with toeclips, which I still ride.

That reminds me of the late 1980's, I had a Trek 720 and a Cannondale R300.

The Cannondale was predictably stiff, responsive and competent.

The Trek had oodles more compliance and handled terribly.

Only when I finally replaced the front tire, getting rid of the original Panaracer TT Radial, did the bike handle normally, if slow.
Mercifully reduced if not gone though was the delay in steering response.

The following year, I finally removed the other radial tire (that I had installed on the rear rim after the rear tire wore out), and yet again the handling improved quite noticeably.

Those radial tires sucked, their long tread life making things yet much worse by extending the agony of riding on them. It was just as if they had lateral free-play between the tread and the rim, making the bike handle like a boat.

Surprising to read no less than Fred DeLong (Q&A) stating that a fork with less rake will make the steering quicker.
Although I have often momentarily confused the bicycle fork term rake with the way that it is used in the motorcycle world, where rake refers to the head tube angle measured off of vertical (such that less rake actually does make the steering quicker).

Love the cover bike , one of my favorite riders is my Windsor Profesional! I almost rode it today but the ItalVega won the coin toss. Always a delight to see these mags from our young cycling days. I used to flip through these at a bike shop where my friend built racing frames. I never raced but in my twenties I rode a lot ….no car.

"Remember when Exxon made a championship-winning bike?"

I remember a local rider had a Graftek around 1981 or so. And then he moved on to a different bike, and I don't recall much being said about what happened to the Graftek.

That cover is so 1970's. The curtains, the stove, the couch...just fantastic!
