I am about to buy a road racing bicycle.

Someone offered me this bicycle and in the picture below I have marked all the components i know.

I don't know the following components:

-The front chain ring
-Tires
-Seat

All other components are marked on the picture.

1. Can you please help me and tell me how much this bicycle costs.

2. What is the approximate cost ?

3. Any feedback about the bicycle itself or its components is appreciated.

8spd? 9spd? 10spd?

Steel frame ... 1" threaded headset ... hmmmm, I'd have to see it up close.

I'd say $550 is ballpark ... $750 if its 9-10spd and in impeccable condition.

Its a very good mix and match of parts. Check the rims for cracks. Those stupid Anodized rims of the 80's were well known to develop cracks.

If it fits buy it. If it doesn't look on. The only likely weak link would be the wheelset. Other than that you can always add better wheels later. What sort of asking price is the seller trying to get?

The Shimano 600 brakes are really good stoppers.

Looks like a good mix of bits. I don't know the frame maker, but someone in Classic & Vintage might. You may want to cross-post this in C&V and see what their take is.

I've always wondered why people selling bikes on CL can never spell "Campagnolo." If they're going to advertise it as selling point, maybe bother to copy the name down correctly?

I like your evaluation. I don't know why but at first glance a similar feeling came over me.

the parts are a mix of fair to midland. None of it matches and seems to be early '90s.

The frame is of particular interest, it's early Columbus Nivachrome MAX. Notice the extraordinary tubes, like trumpets. MAX was used for a brrief perion from '90 to '93 by Tomasini and very few others. Tom. called it the Velocista MAX, even raced on. The model and subsequently the MAX tubing went away in the states, that is to say that the few brands that used it in a couple/ few models went with Neuron then Brain, Genious, Nemo etc. by mid-90's

I'm not implying that the bike's worth what a Vel. Max is; I'ts got to be a well made frame to be worthy. VERY harsh riding, I rode two by luck. That design tube frame ushered in the creative use of TIG welded multi-shaped Nivachrome frames.

It's a german bike for that market. I've seen a few bikes from Germany similar in that they used OS tubing, I meen REALLY OS tubing. Those that I've seen were outragiously oversize symetrical EL/OS, not like your bike. I could be wrong but I don't think so.

It's a cool bike. Don't be overly focused on the German / Italian aspects. They're neighbors up in those parts so as such the two nations mingle; language, food,names... F. Moser, Italy; Fondriest,Italy; Weber, Italy ...

For the money this bike is probably worth, I wouldn't put this in the list of ideal bikes to introduce you to road riding. This is definitely a near-vintage piece. There's a yellow line covering the downtube cable stops. Mid 90's is when STI was introduced. Does this have downtube cable stop adapters? I could see buying this bike with intent to restore it to early/mid 90's set-up (downtube shifters, Campy delta brakes, etc.). This wouldn't be on my radar for an intro bike - but that's just me. Its totally capable. My thoughts are that if this frame is in such great shape, its already a rare breed (looks like ther might be a tiny dent in the upper seatstay). 20 year old steel frames in good condition are a tough find - I'd dtry to keep it that way. Making it a dialy ride will only increase chances of rusting and more wear-n-tear. This could be a cool collector's piece one day.

You have many more options in the $750 range that run more modern parts. You can probably find a 3-5 yr old factory bike with all 105/Ultegra 9spd, newer wheels, lighter. A new stem for this bike will be a hard find. Who knows what bottom bracket it has?? You might never have to deal with those items, but a newer bike is much more LBS friendly in a time of need.

I'd say 8-speed, just based on the pronounced hook at the bottom of the brake levers.

Cute bike... I'd go $500.

as for introductory... totally agree with timeedgevxr, not all good bkes are correct for everyone. some don't like to hear it but....

Can you tell me what is the approximate cost of each part and what can I replace with what?

How can i know if the frame is in good condition or who build it?
