Here's mine ebay carbon build. I have about 4000km on it and there's still nothing to complaint, I really love it. I am now waiting for 50mm carbon clinchers (3 month queue..) which should be nice when they arrive. I'm also going to order a cyclocross frame (FM021) from Hongfu bikes-for which I'm going to use as a autumn/winter bike. I just swap the components (SRAM Rival) from my road bike to that and change brakes and knobby tires.
BTW I used that bike as loaded touring bike to tour from Copenhagen, Denmark to Zurich, Switzerland. 1560km in two weeks. Great trip, here are photos. https://picasaweb.google.fi/116867441...25656192825426

I've got one of these frames on the way, but I'm thinking plain carbon weave or any flat colour is boring.
I was thinking of painting the chainstays, seattube & downtube black; the rest of it grey with the front surface of the fork, the top of the toptube & the entire head tube yellow in a sort of stripe-y looking thing.
But I'm open to suggestions of graphics/patterns that would look good & also be reasonable for me to paint using masking tape and spray cans.

Here is the build up I did for my wife. I did it more for the experience than I did for the cost. But, here is the breakdown:
- ebay generic carbon frame + fork - $299.00
- ebay generic carbon seat post - $ 38.00
- ebay generic carbon handlebars - $ 34.00
- 2011 Shimano 105 Group - $560.00
- Mavic Aksium Race Wheelset - $269.00
- Terryfly Saddle - $ 0.00
- Bottle Cages - $ 10.00
- FSA Headset - $ 55.00
Total $1265.00
We took it for a test ride this weekend. My wife did an easy 30 on Saturday and another 40 today. She loves it. Rides true, straight and fast.

I was looking for a new bike CF frame looked at all the major brands price range at that time was $4500 that's what I was willing to spend and everything in that price range was around 17 lbs.
The weight it built up to was not something I was looking for it was just the parts I wanted to use and ended up at 14.11 with pedals and cages this was a major deciding factor in my descision I got want I really wanted!.
Main Parts:
Frame: Pedal Force RS2
Seat post: P2 300mm x 31.6mm
Fork: Easton EC90 SL
Headset: FSA CE
Stem FSA OS-99 CSI
Group set: Sram Red Compact Cranks w/GXP Ceramic Cup Set
Chain: SRAM PC-1090R PowerChain
Handlebar: Easton EC90 SLX Ergo
Saddle: Fizik Arione CX Braided Carbon Rail
Wheel set: EASTON EA90 SLX
Tires: Michelin Pro 3 Race
Cost: $3140 ok I know this sounds like a lot but remember I was looking at bikes in the hi 3k to mid 4.5k range and all weight in at 16 - 17 lbs.
So for 3k @ 14.11 lbs and the components I used I fill like it was a great deal and a budget build in my case no way I could buy a sub 15 lb ride for that price and I am very happy with it!.
More info on it and my review here if you like https://www.jtgraphics.net/pedal_force_rs2.htm

Did you have any issues or challenges with the assembly? Specifically the headset?

Mostly built from Bikes Direct group buys before the haters ended them. ADK "Bottecchia" frame was about $400, Carbon wheels about $400, Campagnolo Record components and handlebars off an aluminum bike that was $1500. From the LBS: FSA seatpost $120, Terry Falcon saddle $100, Cinelli Graphis stem $120, and Canecreek IS-3 headset $70. Continental Sprinter tires $40 from PBK, SwissStop brake pads from a BF member $50, fork $55 on eBay, Handlebar bag $30 on eBay, Glock 26 (not visible) $500. Weight without handlebar and saddlebag and their contents 17 lbs 0 oz.

Is that a KCNC top cap?? I just ordered some of their bar end caps and am looking at a set of their brakes. KCNC brakes weigh about 100 grams less than DA, but I don't know how well they work. anyone?

Buy/buys semantics. As I recall they were giving group deals on all kinds of stuff - different CF and Ti bikes, frames, and carbon clincher and tubular aero wheelsets. Earlier they did a special on BF on a (nearly) full Record bike for $1500, an incredible deal at the time, which got C&V Cranky and me on some new equipment for cheap. We serendipitously met at beautiful Topsail Island 2 years ago when he spotted my Record Bott while he was riding his:-)

The Record components came on a BD "Bottecchia" bike pre-ordered from an offer on the forum. The "Bottecchia" carbon frame was a later similar deal as I recall it, and the Vuelta XRP carbon wheels were from the Christmas group buy.

The wheelset is tubular as are the wheels on my other favorite bikes. I prefer the handling to the clinchers that came with the Zonal bike, but not so much that I don't use the clinchers during the windy seasons. The carbon wheels also make more road noise. I am unlikely to buy another set of carbon wheels unless I can get another set for $400. I'm afraid that the braking surface on the carbon wheels is about gone after 9,700 miles. I suspect this would not be the case if I had used SwissStop pads from day one rather than the pads that came with the wheels. Incidentally I had to replace the bearings on the rear wheel that came with the Zonal frame at around 6,000 miles. One of the freehub bearings was shot. Got a replacement axle and bearing set from BikeIsland.

The ADK has less frame flex at the bottom bracket. I prefer the duller road noise of the carbon to the aluminum's tininess. I'd say they weigh, ride, and handle comparably otherwise. I'm not a very discriminating rider, I've never met a bike I didn't like.
