Those "bicycle shaped objects ARE indeed BICYCLES. Bicycles ridden and enjoyed by average people rather than those riding and boasting about their expensive bikes. The elitism shown on this thread appears to be just another form of bullying. Not all of us were born with silver spoons in our mouths.

You need a silver spoon to buy a used bike that originally came out of an LBS?

An old one: would you want to ride in a plane made by Huffy?

One of my own said to a customer who brought in a Huffy with a frame broken at the spot welded dropout: You need to jack up the seat on that thing and slide a new bike underneath.

Does it really build up your self-esteem to dump on others who happen to ride Huffys? I though we were adults here. Sad, very sad.

I suggest you be the bigger adult and move on to a thread you do like

Your whole classicism schpiel is ridiculous by the way - it likely takes more money to keep a huffy riding annually than a used LBS bike.

Since I have spent zero on repairs or service on my Huffy Mountain Bike in 16 years, I believe your comment to be totally untrue, but if it makes you feel better, believe what you will.

Here's a Huffy that got a friend's wife back into riding. I got it for free from my nephew, and gave it to my friend's wife. She bought a hybrid a couple of years later and wanted to return it to me - I told her to give to someone else. It went to a homeless shelter a few weeks later. It was a cheap decent bike. There was not one thing wrong with it, other than being uncool. It was well built for its purpose, and may well be on the street 10 years from now (if someone doesn't sell it for scrap). "Production for use", anyone remember that old movie?

I flipped a couple of 3 speed Huffys that were ok, if heavy. I also rebuilt an Aerowind, replacing the 650 wheels with 27" alloy wheels and installing alloy drop bars and better brake levers. I color coordinated it with white tape and a white saddle. Overall, it was still a low end bike.
Tonight a neighbor brought over a local teen with his Huffy MTB. The front wheel was "wobbly". It turned out the left side nut was missing. The cantilever brakes were also maladjusted, rubbing on one side. The saddle was skewed left, but that was a rider error. I don't think the teen puts many miles on the bike so perhaps it will be sufficient.

Several posters have praised their Huffy MTB. My guess is the earlier non-suspension Huffy MTB were ok - it's the road bikes that were crap.

To those few who are getting more bent out of shape than a gen-u-ine Huffy-approved steel rim:

Nobody is mocking you. Nobody is demeaning, judging, or otherwise abusing Huffy riders. It is the Huffys themselves that are the target of mockery, just as they have been for at least as long as I have been alive. When I was a kid in the 70s they were bottom of the food chain, right there with my Free Spirit. In the oceans it's phytoplankton. In MLB it's the Cleveland Indians. And on the road it's Huffy.

That's just the way it is. The annual "Huffy Toss" is a real thing. Hell, even the name is funny. I mean, when you can say, "It's just a Huffy joke! You don't have to get all huffy about it," it's clear this stuff writes itself. There's really nothing that can be done.

[EDIT] Full disclosure: I would totally ride the '62 Huffy posted above. That's a cool bike.

There is nothing wrong with Huffys & this thread IS demeaning, no matter how you try to justify it. (BTW I am a Cleveland Indians fan.)
For those who agree with me about Huffys, here is a thread for us - https://www.bikeforums.net/introducti...ers-unite.html

If Huffy built an airplane, would you fly in it?

My wife did ride her first century in the early 1970s on a Huffy 10 speed with upright bars . . .
Went out an bought her a new Fuji STSL the next weekend!
She now has in over a quarter million miles (that's correct: 250,000+ miles) on bicycles (primarily on tandems) and still rides 4 to 5 times a week at age 79.

Good grief, it's a BICYCLE! If you're so offended about people poking fun at the brand of bicycle you happen to ride, not because YOU ride it but just the brand in general, maybe you're just as much an "elitist" as you make them out to be. Does it REALLY matter? I think you're making a whole mountain range out of a mole hill. FWIW my favorite bike until a couple days ago is a dump rescue and I don't even know what brand it was. It is so dorky I even make fun of it but I love it. If somebody wants to make fun of it I don't care, it's about riding, not WHAT you ride so "lighten up Francis" and enjoy the ride.

"Okay, marketing team. Here's the new bike. We need a name."

"Ummmm, Huffy Stealth."

"Nope. Too military. Overused these days."

"Ninja."

"Be serious."

"The Black Beauty, by Huffy!"

"It's not a horse. You're fired. Doesn't anyone have an idea? What do I pay you guys for? Give me something we can use. Something that reflects the bike's nature. Its purpose. Look at it. It's a fully blacked-out urban bike. What does that say to you?"

"Errrrrrm... Stalker?"

"Genius."
