Bianchi Sport SX

hey all, i've been looking at this vintage bianchi on ebay. I've always wanted a bianchi but unfortunately I live about 10 hours away from the seller. I've talked with him about shipping options and he has said he would be open to shipping it if he does not have to do much to pack it up. That being said, I believe the end cost is going to end up around $200 to ship it. Is this worth it? Also considering asking for a lower price. It needs a bit of work and i believe the rims on it only(?) take tubulars which i have no experience with.

can't post links yet but i think one would need it for detail.
this is an ebay link so if you just enter it in after the basic ebay address it'll take you to it.
/itm/Vintage-Bianchi-Bike-Celeste-color-see-images-for-size-detail-PICKUP-ONLY/323643958880

Also...a worker at the local bike shop told me he believed this may(?) be a women's bike but it's not listed as such but I don't really know if it's easy to tell without knowing more than I do.

I think it’s not a good deal if you have to add that shipping cost. In addition, changing from tubular to clincher is expensive, around 100 in labor alone. Here in Orange County, CA, the same bike is about 250 to 350.

Let the bike shop worker know that Bianchi Celeste is a gender neutral color. This is what probably made him say "girl bike" when seeing the color.

What seems to be a 58cm 1989(edit after bianchgirll chimed in) Bianchi Sport SX in that condition $229+$200 shipping cost is overpaying. A few of the original components have been replaced and paint is in "ok" condition. Wheels are mismatched too.

He has make an offer option so id go as high a 160 but make the drive and come out of this deal spending alot less $$$.

The subject bike is a 1989 Sport SX with a MSRP of $495. This was a bike built in the Orient, likely Taiwan, and can be identified as an '89 by the unicrown fork and the Sport LX group sans RD which looks like replacement, as well as the Wolber rear wheel is a replacement. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Bia...4383.l4275.c10

While this full ChroMoly frame fork is likely to be a good rider I agree the $200 shipping cost is prohibitive. Looking at bike flights, with their box at 55lbs it cost around $40 to ship from Attleboro MA to Washington DC. Figuring $50+/- to box it your looking at $80-100 for shipping however I still find that iffy at $320ish

Sport SX models come up quite often on CL and ebay.

I have no idea why someone would call this a ladies bike unless the Mint Celeste is a threat to his masculinity

Was considering asking for 75/100ish? don't really have any experience lowballing so any input would be great.

don't know anything about cannondales except that they're ugly but that's just personal taste, a nice bike is a nice bike.

Welcone to the Forums.

At 6'5" both of those are too small for you. You want at least a 64cm frame if not larger. I am 6'6", trust me on this, you will not be happy on either of those.

Here is a nice Fuji that should get you closer to one that will fit, and the colors are kinda cool. If you test ride it make sure you raise the seat, the current owner has it too low. I assume you are near Columbus.

Fuji

@wc1472

Check out these frames from Seattle CL. Great frames and prices and from one of our own BF members.

Where do you live? I can't figure out if there is a link for the Brava and the other links don't go to a specific page. What site/s are you seeing these on?

Sorry for the confusion, I can't post links because of the restriction.

The link for the bianchi is an ebay link, so if you add what I posted on to the basic ebay url it will take you to the page.

If that doesn't work, it's basically a 1986-7s bianchi brava in 63-4 cm, it's got 105 components, and looks like a good bike....

To be clear about the link
if you go to ebay's website, copy and paste "itm/254022268756" right after ".com/"

Also I'm around cleveland for reference, the seattle frames are interesting but I don't really think that I'll be able to do anything with that much distance.

Shipping should be $65 max if you buy a frameset. Gives you freedom to build your own bike to your liking. Just giving options.

I'd spend the 130 just to have a paramount...even though it doesnt fit me lol

This doesn't look too bad. The wheels make it look like it saw light use but it is very dusty and seems to have been stored in a dampish location.

If the packaging is done professionally $100 while it seems high is reasonable, considerng packing cost what $30-50 and shipping with bikeflights will be at least $50.

Is there a way to tell how long something has been listed? You might try contacting the seller and offering a lower amount.

The '87 Brava is a nice bike. It shared a frame with the Sport SX model I had and it was a great riding bike.

good point. I think I saw he wanted $500 for the paramount but I might have read it wrong...$130 for a paramount is definitely a great deal.

Apologies I skimmed thru the description and missed the $500 price tag.

great to hear. I think i'll buy it, it looks like a very big frame. Shame it's not celeste though...still should be nice. Thanks to everyone who's offered input! Really appreciate the help.
